Car Parts Suppliers

Hi Guys,

I need to replace the rear brake drums and linings on my Nissan Tiida.

Watched online video and looks easily within my capability to do myself.

However, I am not sure where is the best place to get the parts from.

I am in Mandura/Rockingham Western Australia.

Can someone recommend parts suppliers around these areas? Or more importantly if there are any companies I should avoid.

Thanks.

If you cant figure out where to get the parts from, i highly doubt you can preform the job. Better pay someone to do it for you so you dont break a nail.

Fortunately, I was born with a brain and two capable hands.

I'm not good at everything I do but enjoy the challenge of trying and have had some exceptional successes since I passed puberty 35 years ago.

      So …

I know what I want to achieve, have researched what I need to do, have assessed my capability to do the task, weighed up the risk and decided to go ahead with it.

Since the main driver for wanting to do this myself is to save money, I considered it wise to ask on the automotive section of Ozbargain where the BEST place to buy the parts might be otherwise I would have gone to the only store near me that I am familiar with, Repco.

Other things I am doing at the moment that I might break a fingernail on …

Painting my new house rather that paying $3500 for a tradesman to do it.
Doing my own skirting boards, rather than paying a tradesman $900 to do it.
Putting up my own colourbond side fence, rather than paying a tradesman $250 to do it.

Something I am not confident yet to do, is change the spark plugs in my car. It requires the manifold to be removed and the cooling system to be drained and I do not have the right tools to do it.

Fortunately, others were able to offer me advice and I have purchased the parts I need this afternoon.

It's really rewarding helping people, you should try it.

    • brakes not breaks…..luckily google knows how to spell

      • Its a niisan tiida so either is acceptable.

  • search on ebay for nissan tilda + year. this will give a choice of brakes and then find what sort of price they are.

  • Al thought it can be easy the drums may be stuck and may be hard to get of you could damage other components.

  • Sparesbox.com.au is okay.

Having said that I always wait for a special with the regular players when they are on special, the last I got were from Auto-one.

I would stay away from the random sellers on ebay. I am sure it is okay most of the time but some counterfeit brakes get through without anyone ever finding out. A friend working for an insurance investigations firm found a container of chinese brakes effectively made out of washing powder and some sticky rice byproduct.

  • Repco, autobahn, auto one, supercheap or whatever your local car parts business is. I've got three within walking distance, plus more a short drive away. You might find they need to order them in though as a tiida is not a common model. You might need to go to a dealership, but try there last as prices tend to be higher.

  • Thanks guys, I wasn't aware of sparesbox.com.au.

Ebay … wasn't sure I could trust the quality and it's too easy to just go for the cheapest over all else.
Repco … thought maybe they only to Holdens and Ford's.
Auto Bahn, Super cheap wasn't sure if they did parts or just aftermarket stuff.

Dealerships are like dentists … always leave with an unhappy feeling that I've been overserviced.

Ended up getting parts from Repco. They charged me extra for delivery for the parts they had to order so will try sparesbox first next time. However, they do give RAC discount and gave me a 30% off voucher.
