i never understand why niche games like AFL Evo, NRL, Handball, Tour de France are actually MORE expensive than AAA games. I'm sure a lot of ppl like me would like to try them out but why are they priced so damn high for such a niche product? I think those types of games would really benefit from being half price, might actually get some sales.

    • People will in Australia will buy AFL regardless of the price, likewise Cricket and Rugby games. They don't have any other options.

      • but do they, really?

        • Well they are producing them time and time again, has to be for a reason. Obviously they don't have hopes of out-selling the annual Call of Duty games for example…

        • Yes. Standards have plummeted.

This is a supply and demand issue due to the limited amount of copies actually produced of these titles.

These sports (besides cycling) are also extremely niche around the world compared to football (FIFA & PES), basketball (NBA) and American Football (NFL).

Development costs need recouping. Small country, niche game, only so many potential sales…

i had figured that, but i also figured they would sell heaps less at their inflated prices. I dont know if they do sell really well? I'd be interested to know what sales figures are for these games

        • It would be a standard sales model approach. First you target those who are willing to pay top dollar when it is first released and then you gradually reduce the price to ensure sales keep up. Their biggest issue is there are only so many people that will buy their game so they really have to maximise sales at top price or they will make a loss. This could potentially mean it takes longer for the price to drop, especially if they arent planning a new release next year, but rather an update.

        • @SlipperySlide: yeah i find the prices more or less hardly ever drop, and then the added issue is the player base is so low you can normally forget about online. I just find the existing model broken tbh with u, i guess that explains why there's an AFL game once every 5-10 years only
