what does this compare to? a Johnny Red? Black? Doubleblack?

  Johnny Red, but in my opinion, this tastes a fair whack better. Not bad for a cheap bottle - but it's still a cheap bottle.

  I was in Scotland at the distillery where this is made last week. The pure single malt version of Dewars is Aberfeldy. In a blind tasting some chose this over an Aberfeldy 12yr old, but the Aberfeldy 18yr old was much better (and so it should). Its 21pounds direct, so $32 is a good buy.
  
  P.S. I can't stand Johnny Red. So a no brainer compared to that rubbish.
