Seasol original vs Seasol powerfeed

Hi all, turning to this reliable forum for advice again. I noticed when I tried to buy seasol original from bunnings today, the power feed is same price as the original, with extra fertiliser added, and can be used on all plants too. I assume the powerfeed is just seasol + NPK?

Wouldn't it be no brainer just to buy powerfeed since its same price and does same thing as origi? Why would I need both like their website suggested?

What is the difference between Seasol and PowerFeed?

Seasol is made from two species of seaweed – Bull Kelp (Durvillaea potatorum), Chile Bull Kelp (Durvillaea Antarctica) and Knotted Kelp (Ascophyllum nodosum). It is not, by definition, a fertiliser (as it contains only marginal nitrogen and phosphorus levels). Seasol seaweed concentrate is a complete garden health treatment that contains plant nutrients, trace elements, alginic acid and other bioactive compounds. Seasol promotes healthy roots, encourages beneficial soil micro-organisms, stimulates flowering and fruiting and helps plants to cope with stresses like heat, drought, frost and pest and disease attack.

PowerFeed is a fertiliser. It has a fish base which is fortified with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. The ratio of which is Weight to Volume N 12%: P 1.4%: K 7% respectively. PowerFeed also contains dynamic soil improvers in the form of humic acids. These compounds work at very low rates and are literally like adding liquid composts to the soil. As well as being a quality fertiliser, PowerFeed is also a clay breaker. It stimulates beneficial soil microbial activity and markedly reduces leaching in sandy soils.

    • See, the thing is powerfeed also promote root growth and can be used all plant, including natives which is traditionally why people use seasol. Hence the confusion

I don't think powerfeed is seasol + fertiliser. I think it's seasol branded fertiliser. Use both (i do)

        • and why, since I could promote root growth and fertilise at the same time with just powerfeed?

        • @Droid11:

Because they do different things in different ways? See above. NPK are the elements plants use to grow (nitrogen for green leaves, phosphorous for growth, pottasium for flowering - or something like that). Seasol is like a health tonic and it largely promotes root growth. Use them together. Or don't - i don't really care or get why you keep going on about it

What are you? A wimp? Choose the PowerFeed unless you are not tough enough to handle it!

My real opinion is either will provide the extra fertiliser boost and it is just marketing nonsense. I would choose a no name brand.
