    A Rivers still around?

Our local store closed last year.

I blame the diversion of water for irrigation.

    • Same in Stones Corner (QLD), closed about a year ago, unfortunately.

      Steady on old chap.

    • That's rubbish, Rivers quality is legit. Lasts much longer than Target/Kmart/Big W crap.

They used to be great, they went to the shitter in a big way, and have since eeked themselves back from the brink.
I bought a vest/jacket thing from there last week. Seems pretty good quality.

  • jeez, polyester socks!

  • Has anyone got any experience with returning things at Rivers? The first line of their refund policy reads "Rivers will only accept return of product in certain circumstances". What does that mean?

    • +3

That they will only accept returns in certain circumstances. XD

      • +1

Haha I was hoping for an answer that was a little more constructive. I want to know if they would accept a return for a wrong size, or a change of mind? Or does there actually have to be something wrong with the item making it faulty?

        • They allowed exchange only on some clothes we bought that were the wrong size but they gave a refund on some shoes I had that broke.

Generally most disclaimers/policies lean towards the conservative side so they can't be caught. Personally I've found it easy to return a sale item, staff are much more willing to bend policies if you're polite too. I've exchanged for different sizes too in the past.

I worked in rivers for 5 years.

If you buy online you can go to the store and ask for a refund, exchange or credit note only if you have the receipt.

If you purchase an item in store, items that are on sale cannot be refunded even if you have the receipt but you'll be able to exchange it for another item or get a store credit.

You can request a refund for items that are not on sale.

To make an exchange or refund, the item needs to obviously be unworn (well at least look like its brand new).
Remember to bring your receipt otherwise no refund!

There is also a certain time period you have to do this, i think it has to be within 30 days?

You are entitled to a refund if the item is faulty. You will only get a full refund if you have the receipt otherwise you'll only get a refund for the lowest price that the item has been sold at.

Mind you, these were the rules back when i was still working there 2 years ago. Could've changed by now but i doubt it.

      • You are entitled to a refund if the item is faulty. You will only get a full refund if you have the receipt

You legally don't actually need a receipt, just need a way of proving you purchased the goods, like a bank statement.

        • They don't take back statements as proof of purchase. Bank statements don't specify the price of the item you've brought it for (so they don't know if you bought one or two items).

Bank statements have always been rejected when I've worked there.

Each store should have signs on the front counter specifying what the return policy is.

        • @kbargainz:

They don't take back statements as proof of purchase.

They have to, it's the law.

          From Fair Trading:

Examples of proof of transaction are:

          GST tax invoice
          cash register receipt
credit card or debit card statement
          handwritten receipt
          lay-by agreement, or
confirmation or receipt number provided for a telephone or internet transaction.

Bank statements have always been rejected when I've worked there.

Which is illegal, you probably got away with it because not many people are aware of the law, including your employer.

        • Haha probably. Computer won't let you override. If you take it further they'll probably suck it up and give you the money. And it's ex employer :P
