Jamie is more of a scotish name.

I assume this is some kind of restaurant? Where is it?

  • +8

https://www.jamieoliver.com/italian/australia/restaurants/ suggests they are in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Parramatta, Perth and Sydney.

    Says shmahoo from Melbourne

    • Melbourne's "15" restaurant burnt down. Apparently torched by the manager - according to wiki. I can see why Jamie wouldn't come back here.

      • +16

yeah, he's already been burnt once before

  • Great deal! Sounds like it's available to everyone. I remember when Jamie's opened in Perth. They were immediately booked out for four months You could try you luck for a walk in table, but you had the queue up for a spot.

    • -3

Not suitable for me. The only thing I queue for is sex.

    • are they still that busy? the reviews on Zomato are pretty average haha.

      • +1

I think some of the reviewers are expecting gourmet/fancy food similar to Michelin star restuarants, which Jamie's isn't.

Jamie's Italian is tasty, rustic, and i would go there more often if I didn't have to wait.

        • I went a few months ago. Both pastas were absolutely tiny, incredibly bland (The recipe I use for carbonara was much better than the slop I got served), my pasta was $22-24 and wife's was $30. These were 'main' size but I've been given bigger sized pasta as entree servings.

Garlic bread that cost $6 was the same size as a KFC dinner roll.

It was something like $20 for 1 large soda water and a beer.

$80 down we both left hungry and a little confused as to why it used to be so popular.

No, not that busy at all. It was several years ago. The mining boom had pushed prices way up and quality of food and service down. Everyone was so excited that a moderately priced restaurant with a modicum of quality was coming to Perth. $10 is a steal though. I'll arrange to go into the city at a suitable time to take advantage of the offer while getting my hair done. 😀

Don't know what the current policy is but they definitely did not do takeaway in Perth when they opened.. They were so busy and I guess takeaway doesn't give them as likely a chance to sell higher margin items like sides and desserts and grog.

      • Yeah it's pretty average, long-ish wait for bland pasta, been twice and wouldn't recommend

  • -5

    targeted offer..no melbourne

    • +3

      Uh, no it's not.

  • I wonder if they do takeaway

    • +1

The one in Sydney does Foodora or Deliveroo or something I believe

      • I think it's unlikely they'll give the $10 specials for foodora etc tho

  • +5

God they were so shit when they opened up in sydney

  • The one in Canberra was terrible when I visited too. That put me off all other Jamie restaurants

    • Never been there myself but I haven't heard one person say it was worth going to (they charge $30 for half a cup of pasta).

      • Sounds about right. Never again

  • +1

They are all franchises now, and in the franchise page on the website, it says they are only interested in you running one of these if you are interested in having three or more. So perhaps the emphasis is on quantity, not quality for this set of venues

  • +1

    Fusilli Jerry!

  • This is a good price but overall Jamie's Italian is okayish but overpriced for small portions that are served

  • Do not rate the one in Brisbane. Trying to get service has been an ordeal most times we have been. Pane e Vino is a much better Italian restaurant in CBD.

  • +3

I find it hard to imagine ozbarginers would ever want to pay $10 for the meal in the picture, the bowl looks so small like a size of a baby meal

    • +1

      pasta lavista baby

    • Good point - I have had to check they didn't give me an entree size pasta by accident when I had ordered a main.

    • +2

I think Thr1ve is the worst offender in this regard. I only went once when they had bowls for $5 but never went back. The contents of the bowl were literally gone in two mouthfuls, barely tasted it. Can't believe the usual price was $15.

  • +2

For $10 it is good value. Of course they will be hoping you order $100 worth of drinks :)

  • Add $2 for the mandatory tip , in Perth anyway

    • +2

Seriously, mandatory tip? In Perth? Were not in the US of A…

    • there wasn't a mandatory tip last time I went at the beginning of the year.

      • I think there was some article about waiters being heavy handed with suggesting a tip when paying with the eftpos machine at Jamie's Perth. It was awhile back.

  • Is this only for the pork pasta? Or are there other 10$ pastas?

    Girlfriend doesn't eat pork :(

    • +1

There appears to be a new $10 special pasta dish each week. Menu changes weekly. So wait til next week and see what they serve?

      • Thank you!

        • The rest of the menu has been announced on Instagram. I updated the post with the remaining weeks specials. Hopefully there is something you like!

  • Just go there today in Sydney CBD..this is what I got

    • Was it crowded ? Did u need to book in advance ? Thinking of bringing my gf there to sample the pasta. Thanks

      • I have no idea anout weekend, but weekday not much crowded. Waiting 5 mins for a table. Btw, only 1-2 people shouldn't be a trouble for walk-in.

        • Thanks

    • any good? Kinda looks like they forgot the sauce

      • It is the first time that I try Jamie Italian and I really love this plate! I have no idea about this week deal but wanna going to try again if there's any chance.

        • +1

This week's deal is Truffle Tagliatelle. I updated the post with all the different specials for the different weeks.

Just went there for dinner tonight - was great! Huge meal for $10, filled us both up. The pasta & was delicious. We had their salted caramel icecream for desert ($3 for one scoop and two toppings) and it was amazing. Highly recommend.

  • I just had this. It was a small serving, but I am still full because it was a bit oily. Oily in a good way, and the serving staff were very polite, well presented, and professional. I would definitely go again for a lunch and then top up with a sushi roll :D
