  • IKEA “$1 Fish and Chips”

Is it real fish, or substituted?

    • It's alternative fish. ;)

      • So it's OK for vegans?

        • Fish is meat, so … no?

        • Only as a side with their steak.

        • as long as they don't try to slip in some horse meat.

        • What do you think?

Do you need to assemble your meal yourself?

    • Nah they overcook it so it's extra tough and crispy, and stays together despite being soggy inside.

    • We can neither confirm, nor deny, that assumption. :)

  • does it taste nice?

    • It is OK. I actually bought it for $5 a few times in the past, and for $1 for a piece of fish and chips it's damn great! My dinner is sorted for those four days, $2 for two serves.

I only just realised that earlier this year, Ikea corporate bought out the franchisee owner of the Perth and Adelaide stores, so all Ikea stores in Australia are now company owned. I wonder why they haven't merged everything properly under 1 umbrella and we are still seeing different pricing and promotions at Perth and Adelaide?

I guess it's only been a couple of months, they might need a bit more time to organise their systems since apparently they are quite different.

Wait! Ikea Perth & Adelaide stores were the only Australia-based stores owned by franchisees until recently? I thought all Ikea stores were owned by Ikea, assuming how expensive it could be to own one of their stores. And you're right, the prices of some of their items could be more expensive, compared with stores in other states. I bought a Malm bed from them recently and it was more expensive here than it was in Eastern states.

      • how to check pricing on ikea items in WA & SA vs the rest of the country.

in the address bar, substitute AU for AA for vice-versa. AA is for the WA & SA Cebu owned stores.

  • Not bad $2 for the two plates, plus $1.20 for the drink (which you can refill as many times as you want) & 30c for tartar sauce. Dinner sorted for $3.50: http://imgur.com/a/VWzCg
