I'm in the market for a pocket watch as a gift for my brother's 30th birthday. Can you recommend me something nice as a gift? Most of my searches turn up those generic cheapies. My budget is around $200.
He really loves wrist watches, and has what I'd call expensive taste, having a small collection of $400+ watches. Whilst not practical, I thought a pocket watch would be something interesting and different and he can use it as a conversation piece.

… except it is not missing the minute hand. It was in a box doing nothing for 50 years. I found a winder key on eBay and it worked first attempt. Still working flawlessly positioned on my monitor stand.

Last year he asked me to buy him some new straps for his watches.
Get a vintage one off ebay. I wouldn't personally spend $200, as these are cheap and $60 or so will get a good example.
Use the rest of the money for a couple of single malt whiskeys. 30 years old is a good age to start appreciating these sort of things.

This, at a little over budget or at slightly more over budget, this.. First is Mechanical, second is Quartz. Both worthy IMHO.

If he loves wristwatches for all the normal reasons it is unlikely he will truly appreciate the comparative inconvenience of a pocket watch. Another wristwatch for his collection may be the solution.
