Hi Any one out there to share the experience as an owner builder. I am building in Craigieburn.
Owner Builder in Craigieburn

Finance/funding & development approvals.
Thanks!
Typically, if you buy land and then build with a project home builder, you can apply for a construction loan which makes progress payments to the builder as stages are complete.
Nice. That's exactly what I want to do.
Hi USMAN, I have to do a calculation to check whether it is worth taking the responsibility. Could you shed some light on the calcs..
Hey ofey, did you have to do an apprenticeship or was the owner building experience enough?
I'm trying to consider whether to go down the owner builder path then become a builder, or just go through tafe. I don't really like the idea of having to become an apprentice, especially when I'm over 30.
I did Cert IV and the Diploma in Building & Construction through MBAV & HIA respectively.
Never needed to do an apprenticeship. Thanks for the info. That would be awesome not doing an apprenticeship. I want to buy land and build to sell.
@subywagon:
You don't need to get a DBU to do that.
Just money.
I don't have the cash, so I need the building license.@ofey: DBU? I don't have the cash too unfortunately.

Domestic Builder Unlimited@ofey: Hey ofey, I'm still considering becoming a builder. I was looking at some of the cert IV's and they all seem to say you need at least 2 years experience within the construction industry. How did you get around this?
Thanks
What would you like to know?
I owner built my place in Lower Templestowe as part of a career change and now work as a builder.
Applying for my own license at the end of this year.
Block purchased at end 2012. Rented it out till 2014.
Broke ground in 2014 and moved in 2015 July.
Fortunately home is still standing.
