New T2DM Wondering if Overmedicating Is a Problem

Hi all,

I'm a newly diagnosed diabetic and I'm just wondering if there's any info about long term issues with diabetes medication.

Currently on
100mg Sitagliptin
1500mg metformin XR

Blood glucose levels are sitting about the 6mmol/L mark. My understanding is that these medications shouldn't pose a risk to hypoglycemia, which would be more of a short-term issue than a long-term one.

Hba1c has come down from 12 to 7 in a month, now waiting another 2 months before doing the next one.

If anyone's wondering, I'm in my 30s, therefore long term issues are definitely something to think about.

I'd go with what you're GP says and/or get a second opinion from another GP.

Can't comment to those particular medicines, but in regards to Diabetes in general there are numerous complications if poorly managed.

If I were you I would look into the Low Carb, High Fat diet T2D's have enjoyed success in reversing their Diabetes by following the diet.

Dr Bernstein is a pioneer in this field.

  • I will, but I was wondering if there's any OzB-ers who might have some knowledge about this. In any case, I would still ask my doc before changing meds.

I was just wanting to arm myself with more information before going in.
