$10 Free Credit on Sign up to Burger Project App (Credit Card/PayPal Req) [VIC, NSW, QLD]

2861

Burger Project, Rockpool/Neil Perry's burger chain, has just released their app where you can pay for your order & collect/redeem points in-app. To celebrate they are offering the first 5000 people, $10 credit. Burgers start at $9.50 and are reasonably priced compared to other gourmet burger chains. I've had the burger and the meat has a unique gamey flavour. Fries, milkshakes are very good. They are also offering $2 soft serve ice cream. Menu

It's made by the same people as the Gelato Messina app and uses the Aston Club as their payment processor. It was a bit buggy and got some weird message to add payment from the side menu. I added my Paypal account to the app using the side menu and was able to redeem the $10 of credit.

Android - iOS

Note: The credit expires after 1 month.

Locations in QLD, NSW and VIC.

So where is your + vote?

I've had the burger and the meat has a unique gamey flavour.

Beef shouldn't have a gamey flavour though… Unless of course they are hunting wild cows.

    • +4

Creating a great burger is simple: it’s all about the meat. It must have quality and integrity, and so we take whole 36-month Cape Grim grass-fed beef and grind it in-house to make the patties.

Not a bad taste but just different. Had the flavour of a nice steak rather than a burger which is what they are going for.

      • +10

        Neil Perry is that you?

      • Must be different at different locations. I had it a few times at one location and the meat tasted like salt with no other flavour at all.

    • +3

      unique gamey flavour.

Maybe a horse got in there somehow?

  • Here's the iOS link

    • +1

      Thanks! Updated.

  • BTW, they asked for mobile number for verification but didnt require me to enter that code anywhere…

    • I noticed that too.. odd

    • It's how they tie you to your Aston Club account. If it finds the account, no need for a code (ditto for credit card).

      • Great use of Logic Gav - if you have any more questions let me know. Just contact [email protected].

        Cheers,
        Ben

    • +5

Nope, they are in-line with other burger chains.

      • Grill'd $9.90
      • Huxtaburger $10.50
      • Royal Stacks $8.90
      • Mr. Burger $10
      • And cheaper than other standalone burger shops. I paid $14 for a burger at Grand Trailer Park today.

How do I create an Aston Club profile?

    • Just forget password

    • Hi K, If you're still having login issues just contact [email protected] & I'll help you out!

      Cheers,
      Ben

  • So, is it best to redeem 2,000 points now? I can't find anything that says that that's my balance etc etc. Says any unused credit expires after 12 months.

Edit: how do I get the $10? I've already added payment method.

    • +2

That's a different offer to redeem 2000 points for $10 credit. It's the top offer and your account will say $10 at the top once you have redeemed.

      • don't think I've got an offer at all.

        • Hi,

Redeem the $10 promotional offer and this will add $10.00 credit to your profile, you'll see it on your Home screen. From there, every-time you spend you'll earn 10pts per $1. You can then use these points to redeem more credit. Hope that all makes sense :)

Any more questions, just contact [email protected] & I'll help you out!

          Cheers,
          Ben

        • @bjcolley:
Goodness this app is unintuitive. Just like all other food apps, I have simple expectations. I just want to browse a menu, figure what I want to order. Before I go to the store. Then when I'm ready to order I should be able togo and add them to a cart and put in my order, maybe a time I want to pick it up, or if immediate, when it will be ready.

But this one is just confusing. The only thing that seems to have any action is this "I'm paying in store", which immediately puts me in line at the store and gives me a number. Before I can even see what the g-damn menu is. It doesn't even seem to have a menu

What the XXXX is this app?

  • I think I redeemed it but how do you check? I have nothing in "saved offers"

    • +1

Should look like this. It's not a saved offer.

      • Ah cheers thanks, I have that. And then you order like normal I guess.

        • +1

          You're spot on :)

          • Tap the 'Pay' button as you approach the counter
          • Order as usual @ the counter
          • Let the staff know "I'm paying with the app"
          • When you walking out the store tap the 'Leave' button

          Cheers,
          Ben

      • I think I have that… mine doesn't have the points balance, but has $10.00

  • I think the burgers are pretty good. A bit on the small side for the price… certainly better value when you're paying $1 or so ;)

  • -2

Also, some locations that are listed on the website are not listed on the app, for example Macquarie NSW

  • +2

    Dibe and claimed.
    Thanks

    Clunky indeed.
Try claim offer - need payment method.
Connect your Aston account which of course you don't have. "Recover" password.
Try claim offer - need payment method. This time you're not even redirected to add one.

    • +1

it's definitely clunky, but a lot of people do have aston accounts from previous promos

    • Appreciate the feedback :)

The Connect Aston Club is something we're working to improve at moment! Basically, if you've used another app that uses Aston for processing mobile payments you need to Login. I hope that makes sense?

Any more questions, just contact [email protected] & I'll help you out!

I had a burger at their Melbourne Central restaurant. The burger pattie was dry and the service was extremely slow - I waited more than 30 min for my order at 12noon. Their ice cream was very nice though, if a little pricey.

  • +6

I read their Privacy Policy. It's way too invasive, they can do almost anything under it. Terms include catch alls to fulfull their primary and secondary purpose, whatever that may be… That's enough for them to sell your personal information to anybody.

Holy shit I just tried to use paypal as a payment method on the App. Paypal says Aston Club asks that you:

Authorise charges for future Aston Club purchases paid for with Paypal. You instruct Paypal to pay all amounts requested by Aston Club. Theoretically they could request whatever like they and leave you hanging…

    • +1

      That's true!

    • +6

Authorise charges for future Aston Club purchases paid for with Paypal. You instruct Paypal to pay all amounts requested by Aston Club. Theoretically they could request whatever like they and leave you hanging…

surely this is exactly what every other app or service that uses paypal (in a recurring / preapproved fashion) asks?

      • -6

Sounds a bit dodgy. I've used apps to buy things I pay for what I buy with Paypal on Ebay and with various other vendors. This sounds more like one of those direct auto-debits gyms use…

        • I'm not sure how else you expect it to work? Are you going to have customers login to PayPal and authorize each charge manually whilst at the register? I've used similar apps at bars around Melbourne via PayPal and had no issues at all.

        • +3

@kylebb: You make it sound so tedious like customers have to run multiple transactions burger by burger and shake by shake - it's all in one bill. It takes me less than ten seconds to login to paypal, even less if my Paypal details are saved.

How I expect it to work? I expect to be able to add food items to my cart and be able to check out normally at the end just like any other online transaction and not give carte blanche to a company to bill me as the please even if they "promise" not to. Why leave yourself exposed to vulnerabilities if there is no benefit to it? The question is not whether you've had issues or not with an app, it's the position you're in when you do. It's best to prevent problems before they start. Does that make sense?

        • it doesn't make sense from a customer experience perspective. 95-99% of people don't care about the stuff you care about, they just want a seamless checkout.

        • @dirkgonnadirk: Yeah you're probably right. The thing is a seamless checkout can be achieved in other ways that do not put the consumer at a disadvantage. They could arrange for the app to take orders but transactions could be paid for with paypass at the counter or Paypal/CC without giving Aston Club such a broad authorisation to charge. If we're talking about a seamless experience you still need to press buttons to make your order, what's so difficult about pressing one more button?

This is more of a legal issue than a technical issue, Aston Club doesn't need you need to instruct Paypal to pay all amounts requested by them. Rather the consumer should simply be able to pay for what they've ordered.

Effectively what the consumer is telling Paypal to do is "Hey, whatever Aston Club asks for you pay for it out of my account okay"?. Rationally I would not want to put myself in such a position unless I were getting something in exchange. Instead why can't consumers just pay like when they order from Dominos, Uber Eats, Kogan, Ebay etc, they pay for what they order, they don't setup broad longstanding authorisations to be charged. You still have to press the "Place Order" button no matter how you dice it.

Simply put the consumer can have their seamless experience without bending over…

      • +5

You can delete they payment method on the app if you tap and hold it the option will come up.
You can also stop these recurring payments/subsriptions on paypal directly.

      • +1

        Hi Dirk,

I can assure you we only ever charge you what you've actually purchases! But if you have any more questions, just contact [email protected] & I'll help you out!

        Cheers,
        Ben

        • +6

Your privacy policy is very vague: you advise that by using the app a user agrees to the terms and conditions TBA…how about advising now before getting people to sign up?

How can I agree to something that is TBA???

My personal details including my DOB and mobile number are worth a lot more than $10…

        • I just got charged $1, just from inputting my payment details. I have not made any purchases. How do you explain this???

        • +1

@MrMaxwell: That is definitely a mistake, sincere apologies mate! We recently shifted all T&Cs and PP to a new URL and that new URL hasn't been included - I'll personally have it updated ASAP!

Thank-you for brining this to my attention, genuinely appreciate it.

If you have any more questions, just contact [email protected] & I'll help you out!

          Cheers,
          Ben

        • +2

@brainactive: Hey - I can assure you it isn't a charge! The $1 is simply a validity check on the card. This charge will be automatically reversed within a day or so. When you;'re using our app, you'll never be charged for anything other than what you purchase. I hope that all makes sense?

If you have any more questions, just contact [email protected] & I'll help you out!

          Cheers,
          Ben

        • @bjcolley:
Just letting you know the $1 has not been reversed yet and it has been almost a week. I can live with it and do not wish to spend further effort to chase up $1. Can't really complain when I'm getting a free burger but it is a little disappointing how a seemingly simple task like this can get mishandled.

  • +12

ROCKPOOL!I used to work in that company them take advantage of the workers!Put you in 50 hours roster and wanna pay just 38!If you complain you get fired!Them have reported many times to Fairwork and are under investigation.Do not support this company where the worker is just a number!

    • Cool,downvote me..That is what them want..SHEEPS!

  • I have signed up - now I have to exercise self control and not end up ordering a 2nd burger - fries - milkshake…..

  • Anyone have any idea on how their burgers match up against the greats like In and Out burger, Shake Shack, Five Guys and Umami Burger? Sad to say I haven't found a chain burger that beats what I've tried in the USA.

    • +2

Shake Shack closest I've had is probably Rockwell & Sons on Smith St.

    • +1

I can't really compare, i've eaten In n Out burger and loooved it but I have only tried the spicy fried chicken katsu burger from Burger Project. Whilst it was one of the best, if not the best chicken burger i've eaten I can't really compare a chicken burger to a beef burger.

    • +3

The burgers are average, nowhere near Five Guys standard

      • Darn I was hoping someone would manage to bring us up to spec burgerwise.

  • Does the Aston club even still exist?

Anyway thanks op lunch is sorted tomorrow

      Hi Knick,

      • That's a shame. Why did it change ? I found it really useful.

      • That's a hard sell if I've ever seen one. Do you get a free set of steak knives?

  • I keep getting aston club member login for adding payment… how to get thru this??? errrrr, and where is the store location??

    • Hi Lee,

If you're still having access issues just contact [email protected] & I'll help you out!

  • closest for me 25km's away(Melbourne)….

  • -3

Plenty of bad reviews on Facebook official page ,most of them about the meat quality.

  • -8

Can not compare..Grill'd quality is 100 times better.

    • +5

grill'd is terrible. even if BP is not the best burger i've had, its still decent and better than grill'd (if its the american style of burger you're after)

      • I find Grill'd to be consistently excellent

        • ^^^ This.

I like lots of other burger places (DA'Burger at NewFarm being my personal fave), but Grill'd is exactly that; CONSISTENT. Their burgers aren't the best, but they're better than average and they are ALWAYS consistent. Definitely not like some other places who have good days and bad days.

  • got my $10 credit

    am a happy chappy!

    • Love that :)

  • -1

How do you order with the App…. or is it only for tracking points earned? Bit confused how the app actually works….

I have the $10 credit, how do I use it?

    • Order at store, click the yellow banner saying I'm paying in-store. Tell staff you are paying with the app and cite the order # shown on screen.

      • +4

Oh ok. Seems unnecessarily confusing. Why not just have online ordering? :P

        • It works using the Aston app which started out as an app used to start/pay your tab at bars. So you'd order a drink and then you'd just quote your #. Probably why they don't have ordering.

        • @neil: Ah ok.

Given the often long lines at my local burger project, surprised they didnt just go the proper online/app ordering so people can avoid the queues.

        • +1

@neil: Ordering is coming very shortly Neil :)

        • @bjcolley: completely agree why would you have a button to say I'm paging on store after collecting payment details and actually paying the balance through the app..

        • @mousie: We want to offer customer both options; in-store payments (i.e order & pay at counter) and order ahead (i.e order & pay with app ). We in 'soft-launch' at the moment with the in-store payment and will then introduce Order Ahead over the next couple weeks!

For both types of transaction customers will earn 10 Burger Projects Points on every $1 spent.

Any more questions, just contact [email protected] & I'll help you out!

          Cheers,
          Ben

        • +1

          @bjcolley:
i really hope the order ahead function comes out before the $10 expires, a lot of city people dont have time to walk to BP, wait in line, order, wait for order, and then eat all in the space of their lunch break. Order ahead to be ready on pick up will be the bees knees a la guzman y gomez

  • Claimed - thanks OP!

Just ordered – great value if you're a student with their student deal: $10 for almost any burger and chips or drink. The ordering process couldn't be simpler. The burger was very high quality, with very fresh ingredients and the chips were all crispy with generous chipotle seasoning.

    Very happy. Thanks OP!
