That Kogan soundbar deal looks good too. Which TV did you get, OP?

    • I went with the 55" curved 4k,

      https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-55-4k-curved-led-tv-ultra…

seemed like the best trade off between the 32" (which i have currently from blaupunkt and hate because it has a mind of its own) and the 65" which I consider the biggest that i would need

Beautiful. Let us know your thoughts when you get it. I'm going for the 49" non-smart one. Just need something for the bedroom. I have a small Windows PC I want to attach to it just for gaming and watching Netflix/Youtube/etc.

        • Will do @flaminglemon, and nice choice yourself. If you ever want it to be smart or not have to plugin your pc everytime for youtube or netflix, try a chromecast if you haven't already, years ahead of most smart tv features these days for i think 30-40 bucks.

        • @guster33: Yup. Got a first-gen Chromecast sitting in a drawer ever since I sold off the old bedroom TV. Wifi reception is a bit patchy, so I might consider the Mi Box.

        • @flaminglemon, as promised, I have now had it setup for one week and with some colour adjustment, the picture quality and the inbuilt speakers (the latter somewhat surprisingly) are pretty fantastic. All up, pretty happy with it. Hope you had a similar experience.

@guster33: I'm satisfied with my $420 TV, which went up to $500+ a few days later. On both sides of the screen, there seems to be a dim horizontal zone, but it's only there if you REALLY look for it. I was considering swapping it because of the bars, but for a 49" bedroom TV, and for around $400, it's not all that bad.

I bought the Kogan soundbar and been using it with the bass turned up. The sound is much fuller with it attached. Great for gaming.

Overall, I'd give this TV 4 out of 5 stars.

  • Any bargains?

I've been eyeing off this one. https://www.kogan.com/au/review/kogan-49-4k-led-tv-ultra-hd/

Seems like a good deal. Reviews seem positive as well. I've said many times on this site that you should never buy a TV unless you see it in person. But, I've bought a TV from Kogan before, and it had a light bleed defect out of the box. I managed to return it, no problems.

Yeah, I took the plunge too. Got the 42" for $329 delivered about a week ago. Only wanted a cheapie in the kitchen for watching the news @ dinner. Good pq and sound is OK, but it probably would need a sound bar for serious tv viewing. But, for an hour or so each night, it's quite good , so far. Time will tell - didn't bother with extended warranty. Anybody had experience with claiming Aust Consumer Law Warranty with Kogan? -cringe,.. cringe…

+1 for this. I don't want to get the extended warranty, because consumer law should cover us. I think a reasonable amount of time a TV would last is at least 5 years. For a TV in this price range anyway.

I completely agree with the both of you on the extended warranty front. Not necessary. While I am pretty sure kogan will be a bit difficult about the consumer warranty, ulrimately i think they will relent but it will take a few phone calls.

In other good news however, I have a few friends who have had kogan tvs for a few years and its worked without incident, just have to fiddle a bit with the colour settings to get it to match the bigger brand ones though if you are really keen on that sort of parity.
