Hi
We got a ripper deal with Hainan Airlines a few weeks back and have booked tickets to Xian. We are keen for doing a 1 day trek at Mt Huashan, especially the infamous Plank Walk.
Can you suggest the best way to get there and a possible itinerary for the trip to Huashan?

I just stayed at a hostel at the base the night before and walked up and down again in a long day (came back just after midnight but I don't remember when I ventured up - maybe around 11 am). I considered a dorm up the top to see the sunrise but there's soooo many people that climb up after midnight to see the sunrise that I was told you often can't get a good spot anyway. And it's a few degrees cooler up there.
I quickly learnt that when you have a billion people in a country you're never the only one with a bright idea. The fact I was there during uni holidays probably didn't help.
I falsely imagined I'd be trekking up a rugged mountain and brought hiking boots (I was also somewhat paranoid about the plank walk before I did it). The grip may have been useful but it's mostly steps and pavement and I got terrible blisters walking back down on the inclined pavement.
