Hi,
I am planning to use my 15% eBay coupon to buy a dual sim mobile for around $350ish.
My main preference is better battery life and support for Band 28 as I am with Telstra and Vodafone for the 2 sims.
NFC is also something that I value, but couldn't figure out if 552KL model has it or not. Moto G4 Plus, seems like, has it.
Need to pull the plug on this soon, will appreciate any advice or experiences you may have with dual sim phones.
Dual SIM Mobile - Which One Would You Recommend - Motorola MOTO G4 Plus or Zenfone 3 ZE552KL?

Most dual-sim phones are dual-standby, this includes your Moto G4 Plus. Dual-standby means both sims are active but you can only receive a call on one sim at a time, if you're on a call on one sim the other call will be sent to voicemail. I guess most phones are dual-standby as dual-active doesn't make sense, we can only talk on one call at a time anyway.
Dual standby also means data is inactive while on a call I believe (unless using data from same sim?). Dual active also means you can be on a call and still use data from the other sim as well.
Data is only active on one sim at a time; at least this is how it is with the Moto. For example, data default active on Sim1. You receive an MMS on Sim2, data service deactivates on sim1 and activates on sim2. After MMS is downloaded is switches back to sim1. There would be a benefit of power saving in only having data enabled on a single sim at any time as well.
Correct, but that isn't what I was saying.
@dheywood:
3G (& above) enables the ability to have data while in a voice call (this was one of the advantages compared to 2G / EDGE).
Presumably this means that (with dual standby phones) only if you have enabled data on the SIM that is in a call it will work.
Eg. if you've set the phone to use SIM1 for data, but you are on a call with SIM2, then you won't have data during the call. Of course it's easy to test: place the phone on speaker & use the browser.@spaij:
Correct, that is what I originally said above I believe..
I've had the Moto G4 Plus and recently upgraded to the Moto Z for faster CPU and NFC. The Moto G4 Plus does not have NFC.
You could consider Moto Z Play which is more affordable than Moto Z if you just want NFC and not that concerned about CPU.
The software on the Moto is very close to stock android and called Android Pure. I would prefer the Moto over ASUS purely because the software experience is closer to stock.
+1 for the Moto Z Play. It has great battery life! (courtesy of the Snapdragon 625 chip)
http://www.theverge.com/2016/10/1/13122260/motorola-moto-z-p…The massive 3500mAh battery helps aswell; add the Incipio Offgrid Moto Mod and you'll get days!
Most people say they prefer stock Android but honestly having an Asus phone I really enjoy most of the added features. Built in call recording, network file manager etc etc, you might not need all of them but just something to think about.
Samsung galaxy s7 edge, might get lucky getting an ex olympic version. Could cost slightly more than your budget
Could cost slightly more than your budget
To be honest… I don't think $300 more is "slightly" ;)
Mine cost $150 more than ops budget
Thanks for your time and efforts, I ended up ordering Zenfone 3 from QD, will let you know how it goes. It is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Believe it or not, I ordered Zenfone 3 around 0800pm on 25 Apr from QD's ebay deal posted here earlier, and it got delivered around 1100am on 27 Apr. apparently it was dispatched from Taiwan.
Let's see how it all unfolds.
I have the G4 Plus 32Gb/3Gb. I'm also using a Telstra/Vodafone combo. I've been very happy with my choice buying this phone. Battery life is 36-48 hours for my use. I use it most the day for email, web and podcasts (locally stored not streamed).
Keeping in mind this is a mid tier phone at best. So wouldn't suit someone wanting a super fast CPU. I've only had phone lock up once, this was while trying to stream music and have google maps GPS running while driving.
Android rom is excellent as well. No bloatware like with most phone providers.
For the price I highly recommend the phone.
As reference I came from a Galaxy S6 as I was needing dual active SIM functionality.
If you have any questions, I'll try answer them.
Also the G4 Plus doesn't have NFC as far as I can tell. I don't use it anyway.
Edit: I purchased mine from MobileCiti in Sydney. From their eBay store I think. Quick to process order and shipping was quick to 'regional' QLD even though I chose the free shipping option.
