So any techheads in Ozbargain applying for jobs with Amazon and want to share their experiences with their HR dept? Had a relative apply for Devops today. 4x 1 hour interviews, long drawn out process, but in the end didn't get the job.
Noticed they are mostly recruiting AWS tech staff, a few managers in marketing and sales. Unfortunately nothing I could apply for as I'm not manager material.
None of their job descriptions include any mentions of salary or bonuses.

As as I know Amazon have stated that they'll be selling groceries to compete with Colesworths.
I wonder how it will work with unions, I heard the warehouses in USA has heavily analyzed and workers treated like crap. Yet coles/woolies warehouse staff are 30bucks a hour starter wage and seems relaxed from what I have heard.
There are concerns about that. While in Germany, Amazon continues to battle against unionized workers complaining of low pay and poor conditions, and going on strike.
I fear the same will also happen in Au.
Amazon will squeeze every drop of blood they can from their employees so that they can price transfer the profits back to their masters in the USA.

Reasons - Unions, OHS laws, wage awards, she'll be right mate attitude, sky high freight and delivery charges, sky high rents, utilities and taxes, American way is not the Australian way, and …. well you add on what I've missed.
Best laugh I've had in weeks came the other day when King Fahour of the Ancient Kingdom of AustraliaPost said they looked forward to working with Amazon. I'll bet Jeff Bezos took one look at AP's postage and freight rates, and told him politely, or maybe not so politely where he could shove it.
I'd love to see them succeed if only to destroy the evil empire of Harvey Norman once and for all. Would dearly love to see that odious man begging in the street.
Yeah that wont happen. Gerry Harvey still does a roaring trade in whitegoods browngoods and furniture etc. A lot of it is still people who flexirent and other nonsense.
Until Amazon can tap into that, Gerry will survive.
