I recently ordered something on ebay, from a local seller in Melbourne.
The item got marked as dispatched soon after, but no tracking id specified.
The expected delivery date passed without me receiving anything, so I opened a case with ebay and asked for a tracking id.
The seller then gave me a tracking id, which stated the item was delivered - to an entirely different suburb (Moorabbin), 15 km from where I live.
I have never lived in Moorabbin or had any reason to ever use a delivery address there.
I sent the seller message, suggesting that he might have given me the wrong tracking id, but he ignored this and any subsequent messages from me.
I asked ebay to step in and help.
Within a few minutes I got a message stating that the case was closed because the tracking clearly shows that the item got delivered.
I appealed that decision, explaining that the tracking clearly shows a totally different suburb to the one in my order.
Again, within minutes I got a message that my appeal got denied because their decision to close the case was correct and this decision is now final.
I have the strong feeling that nobody even read my messages and these mails were automatic. Their last message even was in German, because I opened my ebay account many years ago in Germany and it's not possible to change that. Since this was on a Sunday afternoon, while in Germany it was 6am Sunday morning at that time, I doubt they were able to properly deal with my case within minutes.
All my communication was in English.
I'm obviously pretty pissed off.
Is there anything else I can do?
Get Consumer Victoria to help or something?
Do I need to take action against ebay or the seller?
I'll certainly leave a negative reference, but I still want the item or a refund.
Yes, contact the consumer affairs department for your State Gummints.
