Quad Induction Wii Remote Charger - Charge your Wii remotes wirelessly for $36.90 incl postage

130

Found this on COTD small fish. It is not Energizer induction quad charger (DSE sell it for $59.95) but considering the function and almost half the price I think it is a good buy.

  • I bought one. I just hope it's good quality!

Just purchased one of these from COTD -definitely dodgy - No instructions or documentation of any kind or even any kind of manufacturers id or marking.
After several hours of charging seems not to power up the remote at all - completely dead.
Guess $30 was too good to be true - but shame on COTD for selling such crap. Will be returning mine directly.
Catch of the Day Wii Quad Induction Charger

      • Exact same situation here. I was surprised to see no documentation/instructions. Agreed about not powering up the remote.

  • Yeah, considering the ease of use is exactly matched the energizer ones the only question would be if it can hold up to 12 hours as claimed. Pesimistically I hope it would hold up to 6 hours.

suckers! USB isn't powered when the wii is off…biggest problem with my rechargeable batteries, makes them useless. ie you cant recharge when your wii is off or you have to cycle though your controllers, so you cant always be using them all, you can always use your PC or buy another adapter but that makes it less of a bargain.. the better ones are mains powered, or at least powered from the wii power cord…

    • Well I am not from COTD so not going to argue about that, but I got a few usb adapter to power point lying around so it's not going to be a problem for me.

I wonder if energizer has the same issue? anyone?

Again my worries is mainly on the strength of the battery. Energizer has a long standing fame. 1 of the reviewer on DSE says that energizer can only hold for 6 hours on guitar/drum.

Partially correct. The USB ports are powered off if you don't have your Wii set to standby mode. Standby mode is on by default (last time I checked anyway), so most people will have power via USB all the time.

If the power light is red - no USB power.
If the power light is orange - USB power is on.

      • Or you could just use your PC/Laptop or even the USB ports on the wii

      • only a dollar twenty three so not bad, still an extra cost though. but i wonder how much current they draw, specially when they are full… 2 parts here is the transformer efficient, is the charger efficient…the ebay link says 3 watts…

also how long do these things take to charge…

        • -1

It is cheap but your computer or wii is already generating the USB power so one of these is just wasting power.

USB outputs 2.5 watts so if they are 70% efficient they will be drawing 3.5 watts.
Not huge but it seems a waste when you have other devices already doing it for you

@anthony: not getting the whole idea of power consumption are you?
when nothing is plugged in there may be a small overhead consumed on the USB chip, however, until something is plugged in you won't get a power draw. power cant just disappear (comes back to the whole matter is neither created or destroyed) it has to go somewhere. (ie heat)

            • @wisc:

not getting the whole idea of power consumption are you?

I know exactly how power works.
These devices are going to be using a small transformer, they will not convert 240v to 5v directly.

When a transformer is plugged it in it is always drawing power.

it has to go somewhere. (ie heat)

And that is where the energy goes.

  • I wish these induction charging kits listed the mAH rating of the batteries..

  • second on that. I got my doubts, but considering the ease of use and never everrrrr have to take out the skin to charge is just too attractive to me. And for $37 to power up 4 wiimotes… ohh what the heck I thought.

    • yeh, i bought a bunch of LSD batteries so they hold their charge a while, but it is a pain havin to pull the case off when I do need to charge em.. dont use the wii that much these days tho…

    • Done, thanks for the heads up.

      • You can also edit the URL.
You do not need to link directly to the image http://upload.ozbargain.com/2010/08/25/4308_wii-induction-ch…

The oz bargain server will look at the page automatically and add the image for you.
That way when people click on the image they are taken directly to the correct page

        • I tried to edit the url for the small fish, but it does not allow me to.

it gives: Cannot change URL to a different domain than catchoftheday.com.au. If it really needs to be done, please contact a moderator.

I think it's because i uploaded the image.

          Noob here.

          • @pxrnm: I am sure people can work it out, just thought i would explain how the image generation works for when you submit your next deal :-)

  • It says it's for wii but can it charge other device like xbox 360 controller? I would think as long as we use its inductive battery we can?

    • Probably not. I have the Energizer 2 way induction charger and it has replacement back covers for the wiimote with the batteries attached. You could try and pull the batteries out of the back cover and put them straight into another remote, but I wouldn't count on it unless someone else had done it already given the sizes could be irregular.

  • I received mine recently. It seems to charge ok, but you know how you can press buttons on your Wiimote to test the battery of the batteries currently in the remote? No lights come up, even after charging the provided rechargable batteries. The way they click into the remote is also a bit rigid (doesn't feel smooth).. and they only come in black. Doesn't look that great with the white controller.

Anyone else who bought one tried it and have any feedback?
I'm gonna contact COTD to see what can be done.

    • The black suits my black Wii, but three out of the four batteries don't seem to charge nor hold charge! I'm definitely going to contact COTD about this.

  • I put in a return request a few days ago, and returned it today.

Had to pay $4.30 all up for the packaging ($1.35) and registered post ($2.95). Lets see how this will turn out..

    • Disappointing. Will be going on the RMA or Refund path.
    • 1 battery don't charge (flashing red light on charging plate),
and another charge but light never go to green.
    • Others going the returns/refunds, let us know how you go.
    • The batteries are 700mA so I seriously don't expect advertised 12hrs play time.
(maybe cotd means 3hrs play time on each of the 4 wiimotes)
  • Sorry forgot to update (if anyone still cares)

COTD sent me an email, and said they will be giving me store credit. So I'm guessing we just get the $29.95 back. Anyone else have any updates?

  • Yup, I sent mine back as well and got store credit for the cost ($29.95 x 2) less shipping.
