Want a Laptop with Windows 7 Pro

OK I am looking for a laptop with windows 7 pro if possible.

This is for a person who has a small amount of experience with Windows XP so 7 would be a less of a jump and will make my life easy with support.
Would like a 14 or 15.6 screen but this is not a deal breaker. Budget is a deal breaker, the dream would be around $800,
due to budget everything else is negotiable. Yes I would like an I7 with SSD and 32 gig of Ram but appreciate none of that is in the budget.

I have checked with Lenovo and dell with no luck.

Any tips would be appreciated

  • Since not many laptops support Win7 anymore I recommend to always google the model of the laptop you found and look in the drivers download section if they have drivers for Win7.
And also don't buy a laptop with Intel Kaby Lake CPU because those are unsupported by Win7.

I am also looking for a new(ish) 15.6 laptop that is fully supported by Win7 but having difficulties too. Going to keep monitoring this thread.

I7 with SSD and 32 gig of Ram in $800 … you joking..

    • Agreed 32 gigs a a whole lot of ram. Considering you cant get anything more than 8gb at a B&M store for $800. Most people get along with 4-8gb just fine. Even 16gb is overkill for a laptop unless you have some specialised software that needs it.

Yes, op is deliberately exaggerating, to emphasise that budget is the major consideration, not nice to have features like the latest processor, an SSD and lots of RAM.

If they're such a newbie, you're actually making it worse for them and yourself because win 10 will take care of some security issues you'll end up supporting instead.

I'd just go with Win10 and install classic shell and rid it of the garbage start menu and interface

    thanks i suppose

  • I though OEM versions of 10Pro had downgrade rights to 7/8.1 already?

Just make sure the one you buy has drivers for win7 (as mentioned above).

I would just have chosen a lenovo as they often have deals going. They come with windows 10 home so just need to upgrade it to pro (+$100)

    • You would need to buy a business-grade Thinkpad to get Windows 7 driver support, the bargain-basement Thinkpad E series for e.g wouldn't have W7 drivers.
