Mens Hair Re-Growth - Hype or Reality?

Hi

Yesterday caught a glimpse of my bald spot and its thinning quite a bit as of late.

So was wondering if all those ads you see on tv about "mens hair institute" etc…are all for real?

Can they cure a balding spot/thining hair?

If so how much is it?

In terms of my level of thinning at 38 years, I am at level III (back of head) per this chart and I am guessing will move to III-V if I dont do somthing about it?

My hair been thinining for years but bald spot only noticable in last 4 years.

Or catch smurfs and be garglmele

    • This all the way - full head shave at my local barber is $20, or you can just buy a head blade and do it yourself.

They're great, I did the pill and the Propecia stuff … I ended up growing a lot more hair - in my ears and nose and all sorts of unpleasant places … as for my head, it's still slowly receding :)

Don't worry, comb-overs are back in fashion.

Join the shave the head grow a beard club.

  • I've read you can only slow it down or halt it, not restore it.
The medication is expensive and there are side effects.

There are thickening shampoos, that's what I use.

Do you have a brand of thickening shampoo that you'd recommend?

      • Paul Mitchell produces a few products targeted at men with thinning/balding hair patterns.

  • I've heard good things about hair transplant surgery.. though its expensive and they say its an art form so you need someone good. I think Turkey is the place to go for some reason.

I'm not a fan of the drug method though I've never tried it. I've heard side-effects are pretty common. Shaved head with 5o'clock shadow usually looks good on most as long as you have a decent head shape and are not overweight.

You don't want to mess with your testosterone levels.

If it doesn't come in a can it's no good.

  • Transplant. Medication mileage may vary however.

I had cancer when I was 21, and has to undergo chemotherapy. Obviously lost all my hair.

Now, at 25, my dad's baldness genes have hit me like a freight train. After a few alopecia shampoos and medication, I just sucked it up, and did a number 1 all over. The amount of compliments after you shave it is quite flattering!

At least my post chemo facial hair is better!

  • How would TRT effect someone in the process of balding? Im not on TRT or balding but im curious
Increased testosterone increases hair growth right?

    • I thought it was the opposite?

      • It is the opposite :)

  • Another option is Finasteride. It's common use is for prostate issues, but taken at smaller doses (1.25mg daily - tablets are 5mg) it can regrow hair. It also has the added benefit of lowering blood pressure. Even if you don't regrow much (or any), it does slow down hair loss. Have a Google and read about it.

It's not a short term solution, you're not going to look like Homer after taking Dimoxinol and you need to continue to take it.

I've been on it for about 3 years. Is it a miracle cure? No, but in my case my hair is definitely thicker and I've had the side effect of it lowering my blood pressure. Not that it was high to start with but at rest I've gone from about 130/80 to 110/70.

It's quite cheap too as you quarter the tablets, a box of 30 tablets lasts 4 months. Worth a shot.

Read up on the effects of Finasteride on libido and erectile functioning though!

      • Any drug has potential side effects. In my case I've had no bad side effects, only the good one of lowering blood pressure.

  • Ask your GP to refer you to a dermatologist. They are the experts and will assess your particular situation and prescribe the right medication for you.

  • run the clippers over your head and embrace it, man up

  • There are shampoos and conditioners that are meant to help thicken hair. Natural shampoos and conditioners are great for thickening or restoring hair growth.

  • Buy a quality wig and get a stylish cut.

  • what is the average age that hair begins to thin and start falling out for men?

    • It's genetic. Usually it's at time of puberty - hair exchange phase bit goes wrong

  • Recommend you this > DOVE MEN+Care ( Fortifying Shampoo + Conditioner.THICK & STRONG with Caffeine + calcium ).Made in usa.
I did try it works ( my hair get thickening ).
    Other one is NIOXIN 2.
