Which Computer for Zwift Cycling Program?

Hi all
I'm looking to get Zwift (cycling program) for my son. I'm not particularly tech savvy. Essentially I need a computer box which would be dedicated only to Zwift (i Want to keep other computers for other things) I just need USB ports to plug in a keyboard, mouse and ANT+ USB Stick & HDMI out to TV.

Zwift suggests as a minimum:

OS: Windows 7 64bit or higher, or macOS 10.8 or higher
PROCESSOR: Intel Core 2 Duo
MEMORY: 4GB
GRAPHICS: 1GB dedicated GPU, or embedded Intel HD 4000/AMD R5
HARD DISK: 4GB of free space

but recommends

OS: Windows 7 64bit or higher, or macOS 10.8 or higher
PROCESSOR: Dual Core IntelĀ® Core i5 or AMD
MEMORY: 8GB
GRAPHICS: 2GB Radeon R9 200 series, or NVIDIA GTX 650
HARD DISK: 4GB of free space

What should I buy?
Thanks

  • You are looking to buy a computer (around $1k) and all the bits ($++) just to ride indoors. You can get a pretty nice bike for a whole lot cheaper. it looks like you need to buy a bike anyhow.
You cant really build a computer system to run only one game. It will be able to run many others as well.
If you want to push ahead and get one it looks like its a pretty low spec game and should be able to scrape by on a small nuc like PC for around $500. Wont look that pretty tho.
If you want it to look nice then look into getting one built (or getting him to build it - it can be a great learning experience and is really not that hard) from a place like MSY or UMART. Any of the gaming systems here should suffice.
A second hand one off ebay or gumtree should be cheaper but just make sure its up to spec.

    • He's actually an elite cyclist so he does have the odd bike or 7. This is kind of a top up when he can't do the kms on the road / track. Prettiness is not an issue. I'm kind of leaning towards a second hand (ex gov or whatever) one. I would then just need to upgrade the graphics card. I wasn't sure that there was some solution that I wasn't aware. of. Thanks for the link. the MSY ones look good too.

      • The ex gov ones are cheap but are often not spec'd for gaming. Most have small power supply units that limit the graphics upgrade options. You should be fine with a smaller 1050ti or similar but just watch the power requirements. Also make sure that the video card can actually fit inside the case as some of these ex lease ones have very small cases with little room for upgrades. Try this as it already has a basic video card which you can upgrade.
