  • Is something like this worth getting compared to say a $1 or $2 ones you can find on eBay?

Some off ebay can decide to throw out 12v randomly, its rare but they can. For $5 for a semi-named brand id say it was a good buy. Some on ebay also use incredibly cheap and low quality components, resulting in issues such as humming, and in one case i had, interfered with radio reception.

    • Personally I wouldn't ever go near a cheap transformer. I've seen plenty melt down (poor qa). Most recently a bankwest promotional car charger melted, damaging the car and destroying the phone.

This will be much better than eBay. Stay away from cheap eBay chargers.

In the end it costs you more as there's a much higher risk it will damage the battery from the device you are charging

Personally I rather spend a few extra $ and get a blitzwolf but if you need it now this should do fine.

    • The one I bought on ebay cost about $4 each and support quick charge. no issues.

    • I happily use comsol cables (bought some more last night actually!), but I'm a bit iffy on their electronics like this. this looks exactly the same as the $1 cheapies on ebay. all their electronics seem to be rebrands of the generic chinese ebay stuff, with MAYBE better quality control. MAYBE.

personally, I would just wait for a deal on a Tronsmart of Blitzwolf charger - they're not much more expensive! I've ditched all the cheapie car chargers in the family, and using all tronsmart/blitzwolf stuff. never had any issues.

    • Just to add to the discussion, I have used a cheap eBay/no brand charger. It has been fine, but I did experience very bad radio reception while it was in use. It also got quite warm as well, not enough to raise concerns but something to note.

If you don't mind waiting, I waited 2 months for my bangood car charger order & it never came, eventually got a refund, made life easier & just bought this

^ yeah, I would get something like this. if you find a deal on the 2-port version, should be even cheaper!

      2/3/4 ports, QC2.0/3.0, USB-C - whatever features you're after!

edit: never had an issue with an item from banggood not arriving, but yes, they will take a while to arrive (similar to chinese items from ebay)

Thanks OP got one. Had my fair share of car chargers eventually giving up so at least this will do for a little while.

  • I would prefer and bought this with quick charge https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/296186

  • This look exacty the same as the cheap USAMS branded ones.

Used them in the past and the quality isn't great. Interference with AM and FM radio, doesn't stay in socket on some car brands and keeps popping out. Only lasted a few weeks before it stopped working.

My advice would be to spend a bit more on a quality product. I ended up getting a 4 port Tronsmart and its been excellent.

    • Picked one up yesterday, quality is good doesn't feel like cheap Chinese rubbish, fits firm in the socket, built in overcharging & short circuit protection, for $5 its fine
