  • for life

how long as your business been around.

    • Apparently does hosting or webdesign for red rooster, so must be reputable?

      • Hi joshuah,

That's right - we designed & developed the website for Red Rooster's management seminar in 2014.

        Thanks,
        Greg

    • Hi tuzii,

As a company, we've been registered since 15 June 2016.

      Thanks,
      Greg

  • Looks like a click-bait to me.

    1. Title and description very misleading. The package isn't pay once lifetime hosting deal.
    2. "This promotion is only available for 1-, 2- and 3-yearly services." - the website doesn't mention how much for the 1, 2, or 3 years deal. They are all monthly plan.
    • Hi ausdday,

      1. The discount applies for life, and persists across service upgrades and downgrades. We'll see how others feel about the wording, and will change it if needed.
      2. At this point in time, there are no discounts for billing cycles greater than monthly. All hosting services can be ordered on a billing cycle of your choice.

      Thanks for your feedback.

      Thanks,
      Greg

  • 100gb of bandwidth but 2mb/s of io speed? Assuming you're not just delivering a static website from RAM, it seems these numbers are out of whack?

    • I/O and bandwidth are different.

      • 2mb/s for the whole month non-stop would give you over 5000GB

        2mb60secs60minutes24hours30days/1024 = 5062.5GB

        • Haha yep thanks guys. Proof I shouldn't do even the simplest of maths while at work!

My mistake. 2mb/s seems perfectly reasonable lol.

$2.50/mo for the basic one seems good.

    • Hi incipient,

The allowances we offer are based on several factors, including the current market offerings and how our existing clientbase use their services (ie. file hosting, website hosting, email hosting, etc). To date we've found that these allowances tend to tick most boxes for our customers.

For example, the plan you're mentioning figures of (Economy Hosting, Shaker package) comes with 10GB of SSD storage, 100GB of network quota and 2MB/s of disk I/O. You've the ability each month to transfer 10x your disk allowance if you wanted to - we don't think that's out of whack.

Please let us know if you've any further questions or queries, we're happy to help.

      Thanks,
      Greg

10GB Bandwidth at $5 a month? At that price I would want 110% uptime!

Not a bargain at all, Your discount doesn't really matter.

For example Ventraip and their 60% off deal is a lot better and from a reputable company.

    • Hi samfisher5986,

With our Economy Hosting packages, network quota allowances are 10x the provided SSD storage space. Our Business Hosting accounts don't have network quota restrictions.

The $5/month (now $2.50/month) Rustler package you've mentioned is designed for those who want a small amount of web or email storage.

We appreciate your feedback and will use it to fine tune future promotions. Please let us know if you've any further queries or concerns.

      Cheers,
      Greg

How exactly do you think websites work? Because that is completely pointless information and in no way relevant, especially when talking about a measly 10GB of bandwidth.

At 10GB of bandwidth you are ripping customers off. You might as well be called Telstra for your crazy ideas of what bandwidth costs in Australia.

I can only hope you don't have any economy hosting customers because they are literally the most overpriced I have ever seen.

How exactly do you think websites work?

That's not relevant - the premium, highly redundant network that we utilise in Equinix SY4 bears a high premium.

We aim to offer hosting services at premium service levels with direct-to-engineer local support who speak your language while not having prices too far above the norm. Think Internode, Adam, etc back when they were good for what they were known for.

I can only hope you don't have any economy hosting customers because they are literally the most overpriced I have ever seen.

We've plenty of them and they all seem really happy.

          Cheers,
          Greg

        • @InkSystems:

Except why would anyone fit your description but only need 10GB of bandwidth? Why wouldn't they just go somewhere else?

Your lack of bandwidth has no excuse, its 10GB in the year 2017.

        • +1

@samfisher5986: 10GB bandwidth might not be a lot, though are you seriously whinging about Australian based SSD hosting that costs $2.50 per month..

        • @Marrk:

          The original price is $5.

And their competitors are millions of times better and a similar price.

        • @samfisher5986:

Except why would anyone fit your description but only need 10GB of bandwidth?

Up to this point, most clients on these smaller packages hadn't had a need to upgrade due to bandwidth requirements. We find that around 75% of shared hosting upgrades are due to disk space requirements.

Your lack of bandwidth has no excuse, its 10GB in the year 2017.

Thanks for your feedback. We've drafted up bandwidth updates to these packages and will publish them in the morning.

          Cheers,
          Greg

These updates have now been published.

All active Economy Hosting accounts have had their limits increased accordingly.

          Cheers,

        • @InkSystems:

          Hi Greg, awesome!

  • Hi,

How painless is the transfer process (from other cpanel host)? Will it transfer everything, including subdomain, addon domains, emails?

I've been with US provider since 2007, always wanted to move my hosting to Australia.

    • Hi ronaldhw,

The transfer process is seamless - as your existing USA-based host uses cPanel, we copy across the entire cPanel account as-is.

All data is preserved exactly as it was with your old provider, emails, addon domains, databases, forwarders, etc. We test your website once it's come across too, just to be sure there's no bugs that need fixing.

We include the transfer at no cost with these hosting packages. We arrange a date/time with you, you provide your cPanel login details at your old host, then we take care of the migration for you.

If you've any further queries, please don't hesitate to reach out.

      Cheers,
      Greg

      • Do you provide SSH access?

        • Hi ronaldhw,

We sure do. Just open up a ticket once you've ordered and we'll enable it for you.

          Cheers,
          Greg

  • Sounds like a good deal.

This might be obvious to others, but I'm wondering how Postgres uses the allocated resources. Is the database running on "my" allocation, or is it shared differently? For example, would my database queries be subject to the throttled I/O and CPU, or just the PHP process (for example) that is retrieving the result?

I'm not planning anything specific, just trying to understand this vs my own stack on something like DigitalOcean.

    Thanks

    • Hi Zabar,

Is the database running on "my" allocation, or is it shared differently?

MariaDB/MySQL & Postgres run within the confines of CageFS to increase security, however aren't bound by all LVE (CloudLinux) restrictions.

For example, would my database queries be subject to the throttled I/O and CPU, or just the PHP process (for example) that is retrieving the result?

Given the typical use & abuse that can be expected from MySQL databases across shared hosting servers, CloudLinux gives providers the option to use MySQL Governor to monitor & limit usage of MySQL (Postgres isn't supported). We don't utilise MySQL Governor for a few reasons, however have comprehensive monitoring across all services.

To summarise, your MariaDB/MySQL & PostgreSQL usage aren't counted against your resource limitations, however the disk usage of your databases (and any network quota they use up) do count towards your limit.

      Cheers,
      Greg

      • Thanks for the reply.

I see above that you allow SSH access. What about remote database access? Can I log in using a local client?

        • Hi Zabar,

What about remote database access? Can I log in using a local client?

You can log in to MariaDB using a local client once you've whitelisted the connecting IP address within cPanel > Remote MySQL.

Only MariaDB/MySQL can be accessed remotely at this point in time - cPanel don't provide the facility to whitelist connecting hosts for PostgreSQL.

If the interest is there for remote Postgres access, we'll put it forward to our developers.

          Cheers,
          Greg

        • Hi Zabar,

Only MariaDB/MySQL can be accessed remotely at this point in time - cPanel don't provide the facility to whitelist connecting hosts for PostgreSQL.

Following up here, we've now launched Remote PostgreSQL.

At this stage, it's a ticket to have it enabled (and an IP range whitelisted). An interface within cPanel is 1-2 months away.

          Cheers,
          Greg
