I hade been looking out for a good deal on one of these for a while. Just saw these pop up. There is also some lower spec models available as well.

This is my first deal post, sorry if not formatted properly. Just wanted to share this deal.

Edit: These retail for $1899 not refurbished. So a decent price I thought, considering it still comes with the 12 month warranty.
Normal RRP price here: http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-13-7378-2-in-1-laptop/pd?o…

Update: 27/4/17 @ 6pm, more in stock as posted by agam2104 who purchased one today!

Are you going to buy one jv? If not, keep quiet and stop cluttering up perfectly good posts.

Takes someone a whole 5 seconds to google the price.

@Deviner: Maybe it's just me, but I love jv's posts.

Adds a bit of drama to every post

@Deviner: Of course he's not buying, he's just appealing to the halfwit vote, hoping it'll make him president.

          @Deviner:

But that is the normal new price. Not the normal refurbished price.

@justcallmeboss: I dunno - I reckon most people are tired of having to trawl through all the bs posts to get to the helpful ones.
I would have no problem if they were productive or added value to posts, but they're all utter shit just looking for attention.

Admins don't seem to care though which is unusual considering it's just another form of spam.

        • @Deviner: You can press the hide button under his post and hide all of his posts from showing up.

        • @RohBoat: I have done, ages ago.
But I still see "jv 5 hours 46 min ago Commenter blocked. Show" and underneath that, a heap of peoples replies (like this one).

          Thanks for the suggestion though.

        • @Deviner: My bad, I thought it actually hides them completely as if they never existed.

        • +1

          @RohBoat: If only! :)

  • These retail for $1899 not refurbished.

Some of Dell's refurbished stuff is pretty good, bought a monitor from them as refurbished and it was new and just reboxed.

    • Most say cosmetic wear, these ones don't. So hopefully this is the case this time :D

      • +1

Just hope you don't get one from an Ozbargainer who spends all his time eating and visiting porn sites.

        • -1

          monty.melb doesn't use Dell anymore.

        • Save on download quota if porn was cached .

      • I'd be more concerned if there were non-cosmetic issues.

        • Which is exactly the point of them advertising that the only thing that may be wrong is cosmetic.

        • -1

          @iMagoo:

the only thing that may be wrong is cosmetic.

Where does it say 'only' ?

        • @jv: simple calculus

  • This is were I bought my Inspiron 11 2in1 nearly 2 years ago. Was brand new and came with 2 year onsite warranty which has 3 month left. Great deals.

    • Same, I got my 11 about a year ago. You could tell it had been taken out of the box, but there were no other signs of use. Most importantly, the battery was still in good condition (still gets 10+ hours of battery time today).

  • I noticed that some of these say they have ans M2 SSD - anyone know whether they all have an M2 slot and a 2.5" drive bay?

    • They should.

      • I chose one with an M.2 in the hopes of having a spare 2.5" slot if I needed it. Unless they are all just M.2 and some don't specify.

        • Ah… crap this is the 2 in 1, then yeah I don't think they have a spare 2.5" slot, well at the very lease you can max the M2 SSD to something faster as the stock one is pretty slow from reviews.

    • Looking at the manual it looks like only a m.2 slot, brohemian

  • For $392 there's the dell inspirion 15 3000 with a intel i3 6006u and 8gbs of ram, that's a great deal isn't it?

    • Certainly is, considering I paid $499 for the same specced lappy 1 week ago. :(

      • If only I wasn't poor ;(

    • As long as you want to put it on a desk to use it. I have an e5440 for work and it's about the biggest I'd want to carry in a bag. For myself, I have an 11.

  • If only we could run OSX on these :D

    • +15

Why would anyone want to cripple a computer they've just bought?

      • +4

Some of us hate money and have no dignity you know.

Please tell me you run Linux

  • The XPS 15 9560 looks pretty good for $1800

  • is it worth getting the refurbished Inspiron 11 for $189? thanks

    • "32GB eMMC Hard Drive" that seems like it would be quite inadequate, would you even fit an OS on that? I think you'd be better off waiting for another $319 sale with the 128Gb SSD and OS.

      • Yes, you can upgrade the SSD, but the (new) emmc ones don't even have a sata port IIRC.

      • thanks

Can someone recommend one for photo editing on lightroom/photoshop that will run flawlessly/without lag? Looking to spend under $1000. Cheers!

    • Shoulda bought TA's Lenovo specials over Easter for that. I did.

  • I have bought 2-in-1 (13.3 inch) laptop from Dell and it just looks new (apart from 1 minor scratch) and it is working really well. Moreover, all their refurbished laptops comes with 12 months warranty (same like a new laptop) and gives you peace of mind.

  • But how do these prices compare to the general used pricing for these specs? What do they normally sell them for?
What about screen damage? Do dell replace the screen with the slightest mark, or is there a cut off where a certain scratch etc is acceptable?

    • The DFO refurbished ones aren't normal 'used'. They're ones which have had minimal use and have been repaired. Normal 'used' ones (ebay etc) are normally ones which have reached their service life in a corporate environment.

  • Granted the specs on this are high, but wouldn't the quality of the Lenovo E series that we've seen a lot of, be a lot higher than these inspirons? And also the Lenovo's are brand new, not refurb. Or is it the form factor of the inspiron 13's that people like?

    • The Lenovos are pretty big. There's also the issue of Lenovo putting spyware in the firmware.

      • I thought that was sorted years ago?

        • Not sure what the status of it is now…but when it happened years ago, it was a Major Mess…

          Eh…eh…heh…

        • It probably was, but Lenovo were caught multiple times putting spyware on their consumer laptops - the most serious being in the BIOS where it couldn't be removed permanently. I'd hesitate to buy one now unless it was significantly cheaper than it's counterparts.

        • @macrocephalic:
although, the BIOS incident was to do with automatic re-loading of their bloatware, which wasn't as serious as the preinstalled adware which was before that.

  • To the computer gods out there - is AMD Radeon(TM) R7 M445 Graphics 4GB GDDR5 a good video card to do decent (not full specs everything) gaming on a laptop? There seem to be several with this video card from $600-900 in the list.

    • No not really. Most modern games will be basically unplayable. Realistically, you're gonna be looking at spending ~$1000 for a laptop that is able to play modern games at medium-low settings @ 1080p or medium @ 720p. Plus they won't be very portable.

      • and what about a bit of drafting? 2d autocad a bit of 3d with revit… no renders tho. that should do or do i need a proper graphic? Thanx !

        • I don't know what AutoCAD requires sorry

        • @lyle88: thnx anyway

    • No, wait for a Lenovo one which has a Geforce 940/950 or similar. I got one of those (i5/12gb ram/240gb SSD) for about $900 from an amazon special on here a few months ago. It's insane for gaming. This one is powerful but pretty shit for gaming.

  • +2

I suspect to buy from the list, you need to have a "chat" with Dell rep?

    • In a thread a little while ago, someone put the email address of the warehouse that you can email directly - and skip the 'chat' which is just a useless middle man.

Honestly, I don't understand why they don't just have a shopping cart for these.

  • I've got a low spec i3, 128GB, 4GB ram version and TBH its pretty fast considering its over a year old now. This one should fly.

  • all gone

    Edit: actually one left

    • +1

nah all gone. confirmed with online.

  • I bought inspiron 13 5000 series i7 7500u 8GB DDR4 256GB SSD for 799. last week, it arrived yesterday. wonderful piece though refurbished.

I have bought a Inspiron 15 7000 (7447) 4720HQ series last year.. its still running solid. i even got extended warranty on paying the premium. its definetely a good deal if you can pick a good spec from DFO site.

  • People buy it from here and sell this same thing at $300 more at eBay

  • +1

Noob question, how do I order from this store?

    • +1

Call Dell or contact them via online chat and quote the bundle number.

  • So mine showed up on friday, unfortunately I noticed an issue with the screen. When moving the mouse cursor over desktop or taskbar icons, random pixels keep flashing white. Also a few pixels seem to get stuck after a cold boot.
Tried updating drivers etc without any change in issue. Will try a different OS this week just to confirm not a software issue.
Guess that is what the warranty is for anyway :D
Otherwise I'm happy with it, still think it is a great deal even with this minor inconvenience.

  • Also a few pixels seem to get stuck after a cold boot.

Try gently massaging the pixel area with your thumb.

There are also programs you can try like Undead Pixels.

    • It isn't in a single spot, just random, there are a few that stick black on restart (disappear when I refresh the desktop) and white pixels flash around desktop icons when the mouse hovers over them.
I have tried updated drivers from Dell Support and have tried a fresh load of Windows.
Have been emailing with Dell Support to get it sorted. They had me run the inbuilt display test by holding 'D' key at boot. This passed, I could see no pixels issues during the test.
It appears to only happen once in Windows, even with fresh load and driver updates, so looks like it could be a mainboard/GPU issue.

      • Or driver maybe, does it do it if you start in Safe Mode?

        • Have updated drivers.
Also it only does it after a system restart (and sleep maybe?)
A cold boot scenario doesn't appear to have the issues.
Haven't tried safemode, but will give it a go as well as a test.

        • @dheywood:

Did you get the driver from Intel or Dell? (Usually OEM drivers are fairly old).

You'll eventually get it sorted, good thing about Dell is their superb support.

        • @Scab:

It was from Dell, and was a recent release, within the last few weeks.
I wasn't able to install drivers direct from Intel, I guess Dell locked it down for some reason. Said it wasn't compatible or something. Might try some different versions tonight though.

        • @dheywood:

From memory, you can get the Intel driver to manually install by extracting the driver contents somewhere, then use Device Manager and browse to the Intel Inf file (just like the good old days).

Obviously do this at your own risk and create a restore point.

If your problem is only when you're in Windows, it's likely to be a driver or background program (Safe Mode and Selective Startup should give you an idea).

          Good luck.

  • +1

I just order one now, it came back gain in stock DFO-"3959708" 1 Piece

    • Good to know! Hopefully you have better luck with yours than I did, lol.

      • What was your problem?

        • Looks like an issue with video/graphics, but that is what warranty is for.
You can read above for some more info on what is happening with mine.

Only thing I'm not 100% satisfied with is the battery life, but I knew going in that is isn't as good as some other similar devices.

        • @dheywood: it should be giving 4-5hour battery?

        • @dheywood:

Bro please reply to my bottom last comment .

  • Can these be docked? Do they work with any of the stylus pens for digital painting?

Can't seem to find exactly the model number of it 7xxx, to work it out?

    • Model is 7378. It doesn't come with a stylus, not sure if it supports them or not.
Doesn't have a dock connector, but there are plenty of decent USB3 or C docks around.

  • [@dheywood] Bro my laptop have battery problems. Can you tell.me how you contacted dell customer care and how was the experience?

    • Just via https://support.dell.com
Was easy enough, they just got me to try some basic troubleshooting (more so just to diagnose what parts the tech needed to bring I think), then sent someone out to repair.
Tech that came out was very friendly as well, Dell are 100% better than what I'm going through with HP at the moment booking jobs for work devices. The service I'm getting from HP at the moment is the worst I've ever had.

      • I am thinking to return this laptop.let see how it's go.. Thanks for the reply

        • If the battery is the only issue, I wouldn't return it. Just log the warranty job, they will sort it out under warranty and you will still have a bargain priced machine.

  • They're back on the list.

    I'm looking at getting one.

Anyone able to purchase extra warranty off dell outlet? I've been trying to but given the run-around. They keep saying that I'll have to buy it after I have the unit in my hands. But I want to know how much it'd be first.

  • @dheywood, is your fan quite loud on this? Does it come on and off intermittently?
    How's the battery also?

    • I haven't noticed the fan being loud at all, I think the only time I've noticed it spinning a a fast speed was during my Windows install and updates etc.
Battery life I seem to be getting around 5.5 hours. I usually just have web browser and some Office applications open though. This is on the 'Balanced' power option as well if I recall correctly.

      • Thanks for the info. Very appreciated.

I think I'll have to use mine a bit more. When windows updates were happening, it was very loud that I'd consider it to be abnormal. It also becomes a bit noticeable when I was doing a Malwarebytes scan and another occasion when streaming 2k video from YouTube, but that's kinda understandable.

On a separate note, did yours come with Office 365 1 year? Mine didn't have much installed at all, which is what I like. But I thought it was a bit odd to not have any Dell software installed either.

        • Not sure about office license. I did a fresh install of Windows from USB when I got it (like you, I don't like bloatware) but was also to try resolve an issue I was having (see above posts). Unfortunately the issue was a hardware issue and had to book it for onsite repair.
CPU power/performance isn't really an issue for me. I was originally looking at devices that were fanless and low power (Intel M7?). But this was too good of a deal to pass up. And the extra CPU power will come in handy at times anyway.

        • @dheywood:
          Thanks again for the comments.
I managed to deal with the fan noise issue. That's gone away.
But now I've run into a new problem. Have you been able to get the laptop to have wifi in safe mode with networking?
Wifi works fine in normal mode, but not safe mode w,networking for me. I've uninstalled and installed the different drivers off the dell website and it keeps spitting the same problem back to me, which is that windows can't initialize the device driver :/

        • @mudkipz: I believe this is an issue with Windows 10 1607 and below. Updating to the 1703 version fixes this I think, from some quick Google searches I did.
Not that I use Safe Mode very often, even when I do it is with an Ethernet connection. How often are you using Safe Mode?? If you are having to use it so often, you prob have bigger issues :S
