30

Awesome price for this Pressure Cooker as it's $199+shipping elsewhere. Was just about to get the lesser Neo 5 6l version price matched at Kitchen Warehouse for $99 + the shipping charge when this came up in google. A much better quality pan, and a great buy I think!

Kitchen Warehouse have this @ $299 and wouldn't price match!

Because I find my electric multi/pressure/slow/rice cooker a much more useful device.
I've not used my stove-top pressure cooker since I purchased the multi-cooker.

  • Pressure cookers are awesome, one of the best kitchen investments you can make.

  • +1

    Under pressure

  • Is this recommended for someone who doesn't like to spend too much time in the kitchen and would use it almost exclusively for big chunks of meat?

    • Pressure cookers are great for meat, you can use cheaper cuts and they come out gelatinous and melt-in-the-mouth.

Although for big chunks of meat I would get a larger size as you can really only fill them to half or 2/3 at most.

      • you can really only fill them to half or 2/3 at most.

What happens if you fill them to the top?

        • They will overflow and spit liquid out.

Worst things are stuff like beans as they can froth.

And you need space anyway for the steam pressure to build up.

        • @Scab:

They will overflow and spit liquid out.

Don't you cook with the lid on?

you need space anyway for the steam pressure to build up.

The pressure should build up quicker with less space.

        • @jv:

Don't you cook with the lid on?

Yes, but there is a pressure release valve that constantly lets out a small amount of steam.

The pressure should build up quicker with less space.

I was stating that as an example of why you can't fill them to the top.

  • I wish this was 8 or 9 litres.

      I wouldn't go less than 8 litres.

I use mine heaps, best purchase for the kitchen ever.

Even 8 litres can run out of space quickly by the time you throw in several beef cheeks or lamb shanks as you can't fill them completely full as mentioned above.

  • Could I fit a whole chicken in this?

    • Is that you, Mr. Slave?

  • Pressure cookers are awesome!

  • This one is much cheaper and much better. Easy to find spare parts when you need them after years. Buy these from established manufacturers. This thing lasts for decades. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/131902331100

Not a fair comparison - the ebay one is aluminium the tefal is stainless steel.

Sure, the food wont taste any different, but there's a world of difference in the cost of each.

      • And the eBay one won't work on induction

    • +1

I would never buy aluminium for cookware, especially for a pressure cooker with higher temps.

Aluminium is reactive with acidic and alkaline foods.

      • You can't be too paranoid about these things either.
        - Teflon coatings are known carcinogens.
        - Plastic containers in microwaves is potentially dangerous
        - Heck, even crystal glassware might have lead in it.

These things are just too convenient to avoid. Even if you manage to avoid them, there's other side effects, for example if you don't use non-stick cookware, you probably need to use more oil in your cooking, so you might reduce your risk of cancer but increase your risk of heart disease.

        • You can't be too paranoid about these things either.

It's not paranoia, aluminium is reactive, especially in pressure cookers and with food like tomato paste.

Nothing beats a good stainless steel pressure cooker.

        • @Scab:

          aluminium is reactive

          I didn't say otherwise

          It's not paranoia

There's billions of aluminium pots/pans/cookers being used every day. What's the impact to society? I doubt its even 1 death per 100 million.

So, yes, there is a little bit of paranoia in your comments about aluminum pressure cookers.

        • @sp00ker:

I doubt its even 1 death per 100 million.

I never said it killed anyone.

So, yes, there is a little bit of paranoia in your comments about aluminum pressure cookers.

You've obviously never used an aluminum pressure cooker with acidic foods.

The finish tarnishes and you can taste it in the food, that's hardly paranoia.

        • @Scab:

You've obviously never used an aluminum pressure cooker with acidic foods.

          You'd be surprised.

The finish tarnishes and you can taste it in the food, that's hardly paranoia.

Again, there's billions of aluminium pressure cooker in circulation around the world - think India, Central/South America, Africa… It's possible they're use to the taste or maybe you're just full of sh*t.

        • @sp00ker:

Again, there's billions of aluminium pressure cooker in circulation around the world - think India, Central/South America, Africa

Not sure about you, but I wouldn't risk my health or the taste of my food based on second and third world countries.

It's possible they're use to the taste or maybe you're just full of sh*t.

Check online and you'll find the same experience, I guess everyone is full of shit except for you who has probably never used one.

        • @Scab:

Not sure about you, but I wouldn't risk my health

So now your concerned about the health risks? What's the risk? I thought you were concerned about the taste?

Check online and you'll find the same experience, I guess everyone is full of shit except for you who has probably never used one.

I'm sure there's lots of reports … the internet is full of whingers.

        • @sp00ker:

So now your concerned about the health risks? What's the risk? I thought you were concerned about the taste?

Which you selectively left out, I said I was concerned about both so why misrepresent what I said?

the internet is full of whingers.

          Indeed.

        • @Scab:

Which you selectively left out, I said I was concerned about both so why misrepresent what I said?

What is the health risk? Stupidity?

        • @sp00ker:

What is the health risk? Stupidity?

There is no health risk because according to you they're used in developing countries, so it must be ok.

I always use second and third world countries as a guide to my health.

Anyway, you're obviously ill-informed and just want to argue so have fun on your own as I won't be replying to you further.

        • @Scab:

Anyway, you're obviously ill-informed and just want to argue so have fun on your own as I won't be replying to you further

I'm still not reading a single health risk in your comment … i think you should seek some treatment for your stupidity.

Driving a car and walking on the street are health risks too - maybe go live in a bubble.

  • Was just about to get the lesser Neo 5 6l version price matched at Kitchen Warehouse for $99 +

What's the benefit of the clipso vs neo?

You could get the neo for $95 from myer (price match with victoria's basement + 5% off gift card) + in store collection … A $44 difference is significant.

    • +1

Neo is made in china while clipso is made in France

The base of the clipso is thicker.
The clipso takes less space as it got small handles that can be minimised.
Also the clipso is a tad heavier as well.

  • Target have the Bellini on sale currently. Could be a deal in itself but I'm too busy to post it.

    https://www.target.com.au/p/bellini-btprc25-6l-pressure-cook…

$59 down from $79. I own one and it goes alright. Might appeal to those on a budget.

  • Awesome comments above! I've purchased this both as a kitchen gadget lover and also to make my baby some awesome food as I can steam and cook meats below!

  • Not sure why you would get the breville or Phillips electronic pressure cooker that are typically $150-160 before a 20% eBay code. I've had the breville for 18 months and it's amazing.

    • You can't imagine why we'd get something amazing?

    • Substituting wouldn't for would, the typical reasons a stove top pressure cooker is preferred are:

      Stainless steel (not non-stick)
Takes less space in the cupboard
      Lighter
No electronics so less to go wtong/lasts longer
Goes to a higher pressure than electric so cooks faster (Usually the whole point of getting a pressure cooker)

Of course there are advantages to the electric also, including versatility and ease of use.

  • Update, she arrived yesterday! So glad I went for the better version amazing quality, good heavy lid and a really thick base that takes a good amount of heat from my gas hobs.

Already made chicken stock, chilli con carne and baby food in 24hrs. Looking for other things to cook hahaha!!

  • How is this pressure cooker compared to the Prestige Brand 5 litres? I am ok with 5 litr size, but was uncertain which one is better value for money?
