Looking for a Toaster Oven

I need help deciding on what Toaster Oven I should get. I've never purchased one before and I'm not sure what things I should look out for.

The oven at home is crap but I'm renting so changing it over is not an option. I would prefer to be able to use the Toaster Oven as a replacement.
I'm typically cooking for one.
The bigger the better. I want to be able to fit a reasonable size pizza, roast, whatever in there (not just a few slices of toast).

I really like the look of this one…

A few others that caught my eye…

  • i like the cheap one, just keep the receipt and get a new one every year when it breaks

    That's the Target US website.

    • Thanks for pointing that out. Didn't check if they were available locally.

The links were just examples of what I was interested in.

My friend has the Breville in the first link; he loves it

    • Great! Do you know how long he has had it for?
Do you know what he has cooked with it?

      • I've had mine for at least 3 years and its still going strong. Bought it less than $300 on sale.
I use it as an actual oven. Not only can I toast, I can grill and bake cakes nicely.
Not sure if they updated the model, but the only problem is it doesn't have an internal light.

He bought it last year as an oven replacement. I think he's made pizza? Sorry, not too sure what he's cooked with it.

          My mind is made up.
          Just purchased one :)

        • @0xFFFF: Yaaaay!

We bought a $99 Sunbeam toaster oven recently. It does a fairly good job of baking however it emits a lot of heat so it really heats up the kitchen when in use. Which is great in colder weather but terrible in summer. Those more expensive ones you've linked look like they have better insulation though (double walled glass on the door).
It is pretty crap at toasting because it takes so long to heat up, compared to a normal toaster anyway.
Came with a pizza tray and I have already cooked a few pizzas, they turned out quite good.

    • Didn't really think about efficiency.

There are some great toaster oven reviews here: https://www.cardsagainsthumanity.com/toasters/

    • Never thought I'd listed to a series of sponsored podcasts on toaster ovens.
      It was entertaining?!

id send an email to the member for Higgins. She is an expert when it comes to toasters. Just ask Duncan.

    • eh?

  • Have you considered getting an airfryer? Despite its name, it is more like a mini fan forced oven rather than a fryer. It is great if you are cooking for one.

Have you considered a convection oven? This style:

Not necessarily that one, I'm sure better prices are out there to be had. Used to use one at my folk's place, seemed pretty solid.

    • Yeah, nah. Had a look. I like what they are capable of but wanted a 'box with a door on the front' type of appliance.

    Thanks everyone for your comments.
I ended up getting the "Breville 22L Smart Oven Pro" BOV845BSS.

  • Look for one that slides out the tray when you open the door. I am looking at toasters now too and its so hard to find… saves you from burning your hand when you reach in to get the stuff at the back :)

  • I had a $20 one from Coles. Someone at work scoffed and said it will not last a year. It has lasted me over 10yrs.

We have the Breville one, its fantastic. Very quick to heat up. you can basically use it for everything. Makes the best toast or Crumpets, we've roasted chickens, baked cakes/bread. We use it more than our normal oven. Got ours 2nd hand from eBay for about $100, would never pay retail price.

  • I think that the 2 x target toaster oven links are on/to the Target USA site, not the Australian Target website.
