My Brand New Car Bonnet scratched by drunk blokes

While on the recent Easter break, I went out of the city for holidays in my brand new car. While having dinner, couple of drunk blokes fell on the bonnet of my parked car. There are a couple of minor scratches on my bonnet as a result of that.

I couldn't confront them as they were very abusive & we had to call in the cops. I do not know what the cops did but we left the scene as the situation was getting tense with more people arguing with them.

Next day I called the police station asking for a report so that I could make a claim from my insurance company, but I don't think police did anything.

What should I do now?? Thanks in advance guys?

The cops will give you an incident number for insurance. Just call again.

If you're planning on claiming insurance, unless you can provide the names and address of those people, you'll most likely pay for the excess and treated as if you are at fault.

I think you should ask yourself "what would God do?"

    • Lol!

      • When God got angry, many people died, both 'his' people and those that aren't.
When Jesus got angry, the temple courts got vandalized.

Depending on how minor the scratches are, they should just buff out. Insurance probably isn't worth the hassle with excesses etc. If it's really brand new take it back to the dealer and see if their detailer can fix it.

  • I had a deep scratch on my car too, but a few months ago. Insurance said they won't pay out unless the suspect has been found. We all know that's impossible. My excess is more than the repair cost ($1000 vs $400-500 quote).

    I'm not fixing mine. It's a large scar but I don't mind if we're talking about $400-500.

    • I have the rego of their car, I guess that could help finding them

      • Oh well, lucky you then. I have no idea for mine. I guess the issue is with the police if they can't accommodate this. I don't really know how they will approach this unless you have visual proof via cameras.

Im curious why you left the scene without speaking to the police on next steps.

Sure the situation may have been getting tense, but the police were on site, so I doubt it would have escalated to anything beyond swearing

Ours was a big group with kids & they were scared. Moreover did not want the kids listening to all the swearing going around.

      • Username checks out indeed.

  • Feel your pain, it's so frustrating, even more for you when police were involved but still going to be out of pocket.
Someone knocked our wing mirror off our parked car other night.
Lodged claim, but can cancel within week if decide to fix ourselves and therefore protect no claim bonus too.
Quite today from Honda was $580, or $600 excess.
Anyone suggest other options to try?
