It's a very busy shopping centre because of the car park. It's free two hour parking and relatively close to the city.
Moreover the parking is well laid out so you park near the part of the centre you want to go to and not have to walk too far.

Source: Me. I go there a lot.

agreed, it's a brief walk away from central park as well.

lol, Asian students categorised differently than students.

        • Cause they're smarter?

        • Kingpins is right though, those three are probably the most recognisable demographics in the area. Although I'd say instead that it's local students, locals, and international students (of whom, the majority and/or most noticeable are Asian).

        • -1

They're definitely richer than Aussie. Have you ever often seen Aussie driven super car around CBD? Hopefully not much. And 90% of rooms in Central park project own by Chinese kids.

      • You need to specify non Asian students, otherwise the words Asian students are redundant

        • +1

Non-Asian students, locals and students? :P

      • Yeap. Until a few years ago it used to be 3 hours free, making it a popular option for UTS students. At that time you could drive out/come back in for another 3 hours, too.

    • +2

Used to use it at UTS back in the day for all-day parking. Drive out, go back in. This was before the day of cameras and plate recognition etc. Then for a semester they had it for all day student parking $5 which was reasonable. After that they ended the promotion and I took the train in afterward.

They also did reno's a few years back and opened another floor (target is on top level). Its really picked up since back in the day, broadway used to be a rundown shithole but its very nice. Too bad about the noisy traffic.

Building 2 at UTS has now been demolished… if only they'd demolish the tower :)

What time does the car park close? This would be useful for an evening out nearby.

      • +1

The car park is open 24 hours, 7 days a week

But by what time would you need to be out so as not to pay?

Can you park there indefinitely so long as you enter between 1800 and 0000?

        • My guess leave before 6am.

  • Hasn't this been the case for years?
I've never paid for parking at broadway after 6pm

    • +3

No - has been 2 hours free for several years. They changed it to 2 hours per day (by tracking number plates) last year. They've had various promotions since then to extend the free parking by dining out or watching a movie.

That's pretty standard here in Victoria. It's the case at Eastland and Doncaster Westfield. They're also free for the first three hours anytime of the day. Chadstone is free parking all the time.

It's good to see Broadway catching up.

Sydney is just a tiny bit denser in population…

      • -2

        Melbourne's population density: 453/km^2
        Sydney's population density: 400/km^2

3218.0 – Regional Population Growth, Australia, 2014–15: Population Density. Australian Bureau of Statistics

This may not account for Sydney's excessive amount of water (ie the harbour and its rivers) which is hard to build car parks on. Melbourne's Yarra can be driven over and you barely notice.

        • Did you have a look at how that was broken down? Area coverage?

If you've been to both cities, you wouldn't of needed to check.

        • @Baghern: No. Can you break it down for me?

  • that's fantastic free blarking at broadway since most action at a mall happens after 6 pm this is such a fantastic idea!

    • But no boints

  • Thanks op. Considering another 2 hours free paking, is it free after 4pm?

    • +2

Only if you leave before 6pm and then return again after 6pm.

  • +2

Can anyone confirm you could get free parking after 6pm even if you had parked there for up to 2 hours prior on the same day?

    • +1

does it have the cameras reading your cars plates (like rhodes)?

      • +1

Yep, they print your plates on the ticket.

  • -1

Usually any streets behind are free parking after 6PM anyways though.

    • -1

thats not the case in this area, eg streets in ultimo charge parking fee until 9pm

Eat your words mate. Look on any Google Maps and it will show you ticketed to 6PM around the shopping centre.

        • eat your words I am afraid. I am talking about ultimo not broadway.

The car park is open 24 hours, 7 days a week as the website stated. Can I park car after 6pm and leave for 7 days in case I'm going holiday? Is it still free?

    • Yes

  • What's there after 6 P.M. anyway? Kmart selling plastic dog-s hit, a few dodgy food chain stores, Coles New World Supermarket and a cinema.

    • They had a makeover a year ago, there are some high end stores and a revamped food section there now, and of course the usual Thu night shopping.

    • Apparently all the shops are open until 7
