  • Depends. State? Federal?
Also… depends if the business you're thinking off can in any way be linked to your employer (as supplier, etc). Don't know where you live, but ICAC in NSW is pretty effective.

    • i m a registered nurse working in ACT health and i need to starat vending machine business as a sole trader

      • Need to start or WANT to start. Need to start implies someone is forcing you, or other lack of choice.

Don't you have a say in this matter?

        • looks like they already bought it

Ask HR. They will normally have some kind of paperwork that is approved by your Director etc that basically says the 2nd job won't impact your employment as a public servant.

      • You need to starat typing or copying/pasting properly.

Unless there is a person who works in ACT public health HR, I doubt anyone here will be able to answer your question with absolute certainty.
Best talk to your manager about it.

It would also depend on if you plan on just owning the business, or actively working full time in another job.
If the former, I highly doubt any HR dept will stop people creating investment opportunities for themselves.

Also, it may raise ethical problems in HR if you pursue the vending contract for the hospital/whatever you are currently working in.

  • Check your department's intranet for policies. Our department allows it, subject to Director approval but it will be different across states/departments.

  • There is no conflict of interest. Go ahead . Just don't put them in your workplace.

  • You have to disclose that to the employer.

  • I don't think so that a public employee can/should start his own business. If you do so, then this should be in your employer's knowledge. Otherwise, it's not possible IMO.
