Tyre choice: Bridgestone RE003 vs Yokohama AE50

Tyres size 205/55R16
Honda Civic sedan

Current Tyres: factory fitted Bridgestone Turanza ER30. Done 55,000kms in 5 yrs. Un-repairable puncture.

Replacement options:

Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003 ($140x3)
vs
Yokohama BluEarth AE50 ($150x3)

My criteria is the more durable Tyre of the two. Expecting 50,000 km considering what I got out of the old set.
Heard different story from different BobJane stores. Also online review does not say much about durability.

If you had any of these, please give me some advice. Book in to do replacement 3:30pm today but have not decide which set to go for.

Thank you

    Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin RE003

Current owner of these on a Toyota Aurion 215/60R16, done ~30,000km in approx 20 months and told it will need replacing in the next 6 months due to tread wearing thin on the sides. Paid for lifetime alignment from Bridgestone and followed their service schedule exactly. Not an aggressive driver so haven't been abusive to the tyres.

Not overly happy with durability but my mechanic reckons Bridgestone didn't follow the servicing schedule and got lazy (only did rotation and not alignment etc.). At the same time I'm not sure what the expected life of these are meant to be so maybe it's had a good run?

Other than durability I am very happy with the tyres though. Not sure whether to go for another set of these or look at alternatives.

EDIT: Bridgestone have a buy 3 get 4th free promotion. See here for details. Don't know if that might affect your purchase decision.

RE003 are a very sporty tyre aimed at proper sports cars where cornering and grip is the most important factor, not surability. Not sure why you're looking at them in the first place for a Civic?

The Bridgestone Turanza ER30 really still seems the most suitable.

RE's seem to sporty vs Green Yokos - Seems a strange short list.

Give the Yoko's a go, should be more durable out of your two selections.

Have had Brigestone Turanza before (Not sure which ones though), but thought they were a very good tyre.

      • ER30 was a decent for the Civic but this time I was after a bit (just a bit) more comfort & less noisy.

Comfort, dry, wet, noise, I believe both RE003 and Yokos are better compared to ER30. Price-wise both new options are excellent.

As everyone mentioned, RE003 seems to be sportier, better handling than Yokos while Yokos is better for durability. That was my conclusion until this morning talking to a different Bobjane. Confused.

The Bridgestone Ecopia range would be a direct competitor to the BluEarth.

I have had Bridgestones for a long time. However I was recommended Continental by a Jax dealer. Very pleased with the tyre.

All of your choices seem to represent excellent tyres. Probably can't go wrong with either.

Tyresales have the Bridgestone for $135 each, great experience with them when I bought a new set of tyres a few weeks ago. I chose a fitment centre that offers alignment so saved me over $50.

  • Decided to go for the Yokohama at Bobjane now. $150x3 fitted, balanced. Alignment can be done later if needed.

Btw, also had the Yoko db70 on my Jazz after the OEM set let go at 41k kms and it has been good.

Thanks all for your comments & suggestions.

    • First drive very impressive, up to expectation about better handling & lower noise, feel smoother on same road too. Fingers crossed on durability.

With the Turanza ER30, I almost felt everything under the tires. To be honest, it was not that uncomfortable but could be distracting (or annoying).

Just checked the Yoko DB70 condition on the Jazz, has done 27k kms in three years and still look great, heaps of depth left.

I have RE003 on my SS Commodore, albeit a different size.

Just clicked over 30,000 and am due for new tyres on the rear, and the front aren't far behind.

Great tyre for comfort and grip, but I'd expect more kilometres, to be honest.

    • Thanks BensonP. I had the same expectation for the RE003 (up to 35k kms) so went for the Yoko.
