this seems cheap.
Weighs 300 grams, if anyone else was wondering.
Does not support 3A over USB C, it would appear.
What's the difference between this and the mi power bank 2? Wait is this better than the mi bank 2?
I have this power bank.
I do not have Mi power bank 2.
I feel Mi power bank 2 is more bang for buck than the Pro.
This one is good if you got usb c devices and its slimmer otherwise you are just paying more for charging your micro usb device. Can any power bank charge a type C device if you use a cable that's Type C on one end (phone) and Type A on the other end (power bank)?
If so, all the Pro would be doing is allowing you to use a Type C to Type C cable which isn't even what's included with most Type C devices.
Short answer: no.
Longer answer: it depends.
I have one of these and they are excellent - nice and thin and light and about the same size as my phone.
Very fast to charge devices.
However, the usb c port is for input only - it can only be used to charge the power bank, it can't be used to power usb c devices.
You need to use the full size usb port for that and it comes with an adapter. If the usb-c type port is for input only then the Mi powerbank 2 is much better. This is a waste of money.
The power bank itself charges much faster than the mi power bank2, around 1.5 hours from 0-100%.
I have not got one of these ( yet ), but on Xiaomi official site says it takes 3 1/2 hrs to charge the powerbank itself, same as the Xiaomi powerbank 2, but this has 18W output compared to 15W for V2.
1.5 hrs seems like a lot less than stated.
@ozhunter68: Sorry that was a typo haha, I mean 3.5
Thanks, I thought that I could use this to charge my MacBook Pro 13 touchbar
Can anyone recommend a power bank to power the MacBook Pro via USB-C? Happy for it to hold the Macbook's charge at the current level
If the MacBook Pro ( or any other gadget ) can be charged via it's own USB-C input, then this can do it.
Just means you go out of the powerbanks full size USB port with the supplied cable with other end the male ( USB-C ) into your MacBook Pro or any other USB-C that can be charged accordingly.
This is totally incorrect. The MacBook Pro requires a much higher wattage, using USB 3.1 PD (power delivery). It will not charge over a USB-A port, unless that port supports USB 3.1 PD.
This will most definitely NOT charge a MacBook!
@caprimulgus: So is this a powerbank that would charge the MacBook if I bought a USB - USB-C cable?
https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/xiaomi-20000mah-mi-power-bank-2…
Therefore, does the "pro" aspect of power bank refer to USB-C input for charging only instead of micro USB? (I currently own the 10000mAH powerbank and that doesn't seem to be able to charge the MacBook)
thanks
From the description, it says that it can charge a "MacBook (2016)…while on standby using a Type-C port".
Based on that, I would say it will not "power" a MacBook, but may charge it whilst not being used. (Although, perhaps the same could probably be said for any USB powerbank…I don't have a Macbook, so I don't know if they can trickle charge off a low powered charger.)
Just get a proper USB-C powerbank which supports USB PD (and make sure it is powerful enough for the MacBook, because some aren't). If you can afford a MacBook, you can afford a proper USB-C charger!!!
Good clarification, I also do not own a MacBook, so was just using my common sense without knowing the technical needs of the products. Charging up laptops etc can be a fussy process as I once found out the hard way charging up a Toshiba Ultrabook using a Toshiba ( same plug and voltage ) power adaptor with lower wattage and hence burnt the charging circuit on the main board.
Sometimes it is not just the same voltage and connections needed as you pointed out, have to consider type of cable and sometimes even current able to be given and minimum draw currents whilst off and on.
does not support quick charge 3.0 and the usb-c port is only for charging the battery not for charging mobile devices.
My Phone (HTC 10) has quick-charge 3.0 and it fast charges with this power bank. I believe this is QC 2.0 compatible which will still work, not much difference between 2.0 and 3.0 charge times.
What's the point of this? $10 over a normal Xiaomi Power Bank 2 for nothing more than Type-C input at the same rate as QC2.0…?
Maybe for future proofing it's great - I would assume Type-C will be more popular than MicroUSB in 5-10 years, but for now MicroUSB is still the more common standard… In that time frame you'd have done enough charge-cycles that you'll probably want a new powerbank then anyway…
Or is it for the (more) local stock? NZ is a lot quicker delivery than the 3-6 weeks from china…
If you want to pay more than the Mi power bank 2 price, then this might be better option as it has both micro usb and type c inputs.
