TrickByte Smart DNS and VPN Allows Unblocking of US Netflix & Amazon Prime Regions - 14 Day Free Trial

110

Just been shopping around for VPN's and Smart DNS services this weekend. Somehow stumbled across these guys, I had never heard of them before, but the price is right at the moment. They are currently allowing free sign ups for both their Smart DNS and VPN services, with no payment details required to sign up.

I have successfully tested the Smart DNS with Netflix USA and Amazon Prime USA. However, the Netflix streaming didn't work for me using Chrome, I had to use MS Edge. I assume it needs some static routes to block the Google DNS. Also haven't tried the VPN yet as I'm still playing with TorGuard.
I contacted customer service to ask when the the free offer would expire and I was told: "We don't have time frame for that. We will update our website once users are required to subscribe once the free access is over."

Note: This service simply allows you to unblock the geo restrictions, you still need a subscription to the service you want to acces, i.e. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc.

i would not trust an unknown dns provider (with whois privacy) at the router level. they can hijack your data. if using at the device level (for eg fire tv) then the risk is minimal

    • It cannot tamper with data. However it could send you to fake sites that appear to be the real thing unless examined and that could certainly lead to some not so nice things happening.

      • What's to stop them tampering with your data for a HTTP (not HTTPS) site? If it's passing through their proxies, they can do whatever they like. And this is a (selective) proxy service.

They can also log all websites/domain names you visit and sell that information.

  • I've contacted support again about what the deal is after 14 days, as my understanding from the pricing page is they are currently not charging until some yet to be determined date, or we will be able to sign up for a one year subscription for $0. I will update here when I hear back from TrickByte.

  • all up and running, us netflix using smart dns, thanks

    • using singapore primary server and india secondary

  • Works with a Roku giving me Netflix US (where Getflix won't) and Amazon Prime US. It'll be interesting to see what the quality of Prime is because often through Getflix it's terrible (not sure if that's Getflix or the Roku's fault). Well, just had a look at a show that was terrible quality through Getflix and it's fine with this mob.

It'll also be interesting to see how much this is as I have the lifetime Getflix license.

    • what the quality of Prime is because often through Getflix it's terrible (not sure if that's Getflix or the Roku's fault).

More than likely it'll be your ISP's international links.

      • but then wouldn't it be the same regardless of which service like Getflix I use?

        • Depends on what server they route you to for streaming. Even from day to day it can change, and all depends on which CDN has the video you want to stream. There are many different factors to it all.

Once you've authenticated with whatever service, it's then a direct connection from you to the streaming CDN, no return stream comes back through any Smart DNS provider.

        • @Porthos: Who's 'they'? The ISP? and what is CDN?

        • @wfdTamar: They = whatever smart DNS service you're using.

Oh no, Netflix US is struggling to do even SD quality with an HD show. So back to Netflix Aus (on 50Mbps nbn).

      • I think you need to look at your ISP. I have been streaming HD netflix from USA for last 5 hours or so. As Porthos says more than likely it is your ISP's international link. For example my speed to the West Coast has dropped at the moment to about 40Mbps but during the day it peaks around 70Mbps. Previously my last ISP couldn't provide decent international speeds for streaming.

        • Telstra has been quite bad with their international links (US & Europe) when I checked a year or so ago. Frustrating when you're paying the Telstra premium to find out that their great cable speed only applies to locally hosted data. Have they improved?

  • Any info yet on the cost after the trial expires? Might work great but if i have to another child. 🙄

  • Netflix has stopped working on anything but browsers (confirmed with Trickbyte). That didn't last long.
