iPhone 6 64GB for Mum (New or Trusted Used)

My mum is struggling along with an old iphone 4s and I've just realised that she is really dependent on the phone. She's a solo widow and communicates so much through the phone, and with her eyesight getting worse the 4S screen is just so small for her.

So I'd like to find her a bigger screen, and the iphone 6 looks good. I need to stick with iphone because it's taken her years to learn that interface, otherwise I'd change to android.
She needs 64gb because she loads it up with podcasts and photos.

Does anyone have any thoughts on where to get a good one?

I don't need new, but given the dodgy insurance scams and blocking things that seem to occur, I would only buy used from a trusted source - any decent ozbargainers out there keen to sell!?

Any experience with any of these ebay guys?

Some say international version, whatever that means…

Thanks for any advice.
Budget around 450-475 would be nice, and with the 5% off ebay coupon the above ebay ones would come to that much

  • Hi Hoju

I see this seller consistently listing iPhones at or below market value. Unfortunately no iPhone 6 64GB in stock, but I believe they sell them for $439 which is under your budget :)

Similar local re-sellers can be found. This one is local to me but I'm sure there will be some in Sydney too

    Best of luck!

    • Thanks man! They looks used, which I'm fine with as long as they haven't gone and put a 'new' crappy screen replacement on that fails in the future or doesn't have the apple quality. That's one of the biggest issues is poor screen replacements and these places selling iPhones in new condition

      • I think the good thing about purchasing at their eBay store, or eBay in general, is that if you do encounter a fault due to a crappy screen replacement (believe me I'm dealing with a case like that right now), you can send it back for a full refund as per eBay's guarantee. Of course, my personal opinion is that you search up used listings religiously until you find the unit you're absolutely happy with. However, as that can be time consuming and it'd be the luck of the draw if you find said unit before the 5% sale is over, it'll be the re-sellers that would remain the safe bet. You should be fine either way :)

        • Ah yeh should've mentioned she's from England so following up on issues with local sellers could be tricky :(
Had to do the same myself in the past and always felt happy with the PayPal/eBay coverage but the overseas thing complicates it a bit

        • @Hoju:
          Go ask hot UK deals.
You'll still be able to pay for it but delivered to her locally.

  • apple store…

    • Don't think they sell the 6 any more and anything else is well… slightly overpriced

  • Have you looked a CEX or EBGames? Not the most obvious for a phone.

    EBGames: iPhone 6, 64GB $608: https://ebgames.com.au/tablets-205200-iPhone-6-64GB---Gold-R…
    CEX: iPhone 6, 64GB $730: https://au.webuy.com/product.php?sku=SAPPI664GSIUNLB

Be aware that a second-hand iPhone 6 is going to be 2.5 years old at this point, and the battery may not be up to much if it's been well-used (eg Pokemon GO). The battery replacement at Apple is ~$150. I've got an iPhone 6 (not selling, sorry) and I swapped at the Apple Store a year ago because the battery was rubbish (in warranty period).

    • Good point about the battery thanks! Bit pricey for those sellers though :(

  • How about an android with a iOS loader?

    • Woah I think that would challenge her as a senior citizen! Or more me, trying to trouble shoot from a distance when thins go wrong.

  • I would suggest looking at iPhone SE instead. It might have a better form factor for your mum and it has better specs than iPhone 6.
