I recently received a refund from an ebay seller for an item not received. I had paid for my item using PayPal from one of my linked credit cards as the payment source. However, I no longer have the same credit card I used for payment. I can see that the refund has been made but the refund is not showing in my PayPal balance. In such a scenario, where does the refund go to if the original source is no longer avaiable? Any idea where my refund is? Thanks.

It should go to the original source. Check with the issuing bank of your credit card.
Had similar scenario with my credit card expired and getting PayPal refund. The bank was able to sort it out for me.The refund goes as a PayPal credit, not to the account linked to your PayPal. That's what happened to me recently.
If paid using a credit card, it gets refunded back there since it was the payment source….
The op paid via PayPal though not credit card.
It may be a credit card linked to PayPal ( like I have) but the money goes to the pay pal account not to the linked credit card.
I would imagine it is treated differently via credit card vs a bank account.
While it is correct the account is funded by the CC which is then used to pay for the item, by refunding only to the Paypal account, the account holder has essentially received a free cash advance - just transfer your PP balance back to your linked bank.
Well that's strange as each time I've paid for something thru Paypal via a linked credit card, I've gotten a refund straight back to my credit card, not to my paypal account as "Available Funds"
@grimace3: the refund to me was this year, bought something from BangGood, ennded up out of stock so they refunded me and it was a credit to the PayPal account.
I have no idea why someone has Negged me, I am just saying what exactly happened in my case.
@PVA:
Pos to balance it out.
Not that I think you're lying (you have no reason to lie to strangers on the net) but I find that so weird it was allowed to process like that.
Knowing what banks are like, they'd be spewing to miss out on a cash advance charge for this scenario.
@PVA:
No idea why someone would neg you either. Oh well, whatever floats their boat.
Sometimes refunds can stay "pending" for a while. It will show you receiving it, however won't be available to withdraw as yet.
Was your account cancelled? Or is it just a new card/number (ie. fraud leading to your old number being cancelled)?
Update - I logged into my AMEX account (credit card has already been cancelled but can still log in) and I can see the refunded amount so the refund has been returned to the original source of payment. Does AMEX automatically send out a cheque in the mail if the closed account is in credit or do I have to manually request this by phone? Thanks.
Will probably have to contact them. I'd imagine if there was a credit balance when the card closed, it would be automatic, but I doubt there is a flag to do it once it's already closed.
