AmEx Platinum Reserve

Hi All,

I recently got my AMEX Platinum Charge Card, I also have Platinum Edge and Explorer card
I heard that we can get a complimentary platinum reserve card that comes with a free Trans-Tasman flight
Can someone please explain me, I've searched around and I couldn't find adequate information about this perk and how to apply?
Would it be possible to convert my platinum edge to platinum reserve as we can only hold 2 amex credit cards at a time? are they in the same ascent program?

    From what I've read, they canned the platinum reserve card a few years ago, one reason that made me reconsider applying for a Platinum card.

    I got the platinum reserve companion card 1 year ago. Not sure if still available, but worth applying for if it is. Ring them and ask as they have excellent customer service. The link that I had for the application form does not work any more - not a good sign!
    Also the free flight has been replaced by a $400 Amex Travel credit.

      So do you get $700 travel credit in total? $400 platinum reserve on top of the $300 from platinum charge

        Yes. But they cannot be used together in the one transaction, and each credit can only be accessed once. IE if you don't use the whole of each credit in one transaction each, then the balance is lost.

          btw, which program is the card under? gateway? ascent or premium ascent?

          @aldoboy: My Platinum Charge card and Platinum Reserve Credit Card are Ascent, but it must be Ascent Premium because I have the ability to transfer points to Qantas.

    I have the Charge, Platinum Reserve Companion Card, Edge and Gold card. I believe the Reserve may still be offered by request only.

      Not sure if you mean you already have this, but you can get the Platinum Edge as a companion card for the Gold Charge card. :)

        Yep, I have the edge as a companion card.

        Yep, the old Gold Charge one as I was provided the Edge as a companion card and the Gold Card has a lower annual fee and the Edge has great earn rates at Supermarkets, Fuel etc. So I manage my 4 cards to ensure best earn rates.

    I am sure it used to be listed as a feature on the Amex site, and also on the Pointhacks page for this card, but is on neither now.

    Would suggest it is either gone or at least no longer a published benefit.

    I called them up on Saturday and they said they would send me an application for it. Still waiting and yes you will need to cancel an Amex card first which I also had to as the limit is 2 credit cards and 1 charge.

      I have two charge cards and two credit cards. In fact up until November last year I had three charge cards and two credit cards.

      It's been 3 weeks since they promised to send me an application for the reserve companion card, yet no luck.

      @schmucky: how long did it take for you to get it?

    Oh. I have 1 charge cards and 3 credit cards now. How can I apply 1 more Platinum Reserve?

    Just for anyone who finds this thread in 2018 - I received my charge card yesterday and they give a link in the welcome pack to the application PDF.
    It is still available to apply for - via fax/email, not online. You can call them for a form, too.

        Even later reply… but you can apply online through amex.com.au/companion
