Parker 99r Double Edged Safety Razor $22.60 (+Shipping) @ Themodernman.co.uk

60

A true ozbargainer would use a safety razor due to the MASSIVE cost savings you get compared to a disposable razor. They are also better for your skin. Buy this safety razor, and you can get 100 blades for less than $10.

The Parker 99r Double Edged Safety Razor is only $22.60 with shipping. However there is free shipping at $30, and you will need to buy some more blades eventually so buy them from here. I got these for $9.25.
Note: the razor does come with a sample set of blades, however I prefer to minimise shipping. Those with beards may also want to look at sharper blades.

This safety razor is usually $38 as found on Pureman.

  • Does anyone know how these compare to Feather brand blades? I've bought off ebay before and they are pretty good for my facial growth

    • Can't say I've used either the Derby or Feather brand blades. I've stuck with Personna blades for as long as I've had my safety razor (Merkur 180 long handle).

    • I've used Derby, Feather, Merkur and Astra's.

Feathers were the only ones I've had trouble with, they give a noticeably closer cut (although the others are still 100x better than a cartridge razor), but I always end up with one or two nicks when using them. Probably just a lack of experience/technique, although I've found lots of other people experience the same with Feathers.

Derbys and Astras have been great though. If you want to stick with Feathers though, I'm sure you could find them cheap easily enough on eBay.

    • No where near as good.
Their black ones are ok though.
Astra green packet or Permasharp are good middle ground blades to try.
Polsilver Si are a very good modern blade as well.
Feathers are arguably the sharpest blades, yet lack smoothness in favour of this.

Paate and Cut is an Aussie based forum for this and worth lurking alone.

    • Feather > Personna reds>> Derby >>>>>>> everything

    • Different blades, different razor and different face will give different results. Buy a sample pack and see what works for you.

For me, Feathers and Polsilver give a very close shave but you need to go a bit slower with them. To get the same shave with Astra or Derby needs too much pressure and ends up rough…fine for a quick daily shave though.

If you're not sure about your technique then stick with the same razor/blade combo for a few weeks before changing things around too much.

  • They are also better for your skin.

Thinking of finally making the switch, the Gillette Mach 3 I use always gives me horrid razor bumps and zits.

They shave extremely close but are brutal on skin.

    • Watch this video by the art of manliness. I used to have the same issue when shaving but after watching that video, no longer.

Not sure if I should click on it in case it's a GrindR video.

        • Not knowing what GrindR was, and now knowing what it is, I'm wondering what sort of advertising Google is going to throw at me.

        • @Trickey:

It's brave of you to have finally come out.

  • This is a true bargain for a quality DE safety razor, I spent three times as much on mine (but have spent next to nothing on blades ever since!)

    • The cost difference is amazing.

I found 4 boxes of feathers in the bottom of one of my drawers the other day. Can't imagine that with disposables, its like a hundred bucks worth of Mach 3 Turbo Nitro Supar Vin Diesel Explosion blades.

  • Out of stock at the moment

  • I got 92r, which I think is a good starting razor
