Men's Durable Yet Stylish Belt

Fellow Ozbargainers,

I am looking to get a stylish and durable belt for work, so perhaps leather belt is best as it looks more formal.
The importance of it being durable is high because most of my leather belts in the past suffer from leather split after a while..

Where do you guys get your belts from?
Any recommendations will be much appreciated.

TIA

  • quicksilver on ebay are having a sale on belts - half price and free shipping on orders over $20 link

I bought a quicksilver belt from a deal on OzB a few years ago. excellent belt. except my father-in-law pinched it when he was visiting 3 months ago. luckily I've put on weight so I don't need a belt…. :(

ebay. only buy leather - nice thick + made in Australia. don't get one with stitching along the length (often inferior).

read description carefully. some will say "PU Leather" = plastic = crap.

  • Huh, I just realised I don't think I've ever thrown a belt away because it was worn out.

What, the power cords not working out for you anymore?

Make sure you get a full hide leather belt. Genuine leather is a grade of leather and the worst one at that. RM Williams do some nice ones but you'll pay a hefty price. Worth it IMO. I've had one for 5 years and it's still going strong.

    • Yeah, avoid genuine leather - it is a decieving name.

      • I'm not sure deceiving is the right word - it's just a grade, and people stopped realising that it's just that - a grade of leather.

I found a local leather worker in my city to custom make belts for my son. $50 gets me an extra long, extra thick belt, beautiful burnished and with a strong buckle, and the guy gets beer money, win-win.

    • Hi there, are you based in Melbourne?

It's very hard to buy a quality belt at most shops, most are bonded junk. A saddlemaker will sell you a belt that will last decades. For $50-$100. They sometimes have a stall at Weekend markets.

  • Check out the Belts by Buckle. They go for around $45 at Myers.

  • Use your pack of coloured zip ties. Go black only for formal occasions. Red on Friday, and a rainbow coloured ones on hump day and happy days.

  • I got one from ebay. Quite a bit cheaper than B&M stores and it's still in very good condition.

    • which shop in ebay?

    • Yes, which shop?!

      • Basically the one from here. Fair warning the buckle locking system is different from the normal ones but it works once you're used to it and is quite durable. It's less than $10 so worth the risk to try it out.

        • Thanks for that. I'm after something more traditional looking.
