First post. JB doing a decent deal on a HTC Vive kit until tomorrow. Not sure if the kit has been cheaper in the past. If you have the space, I hear these things are pretty good. Make sure to check your PC's minimum requirements first, they require a relatively powerful machine to run smoothly. Enjoy. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/desktops/htc/htc…

Good point. But if you want it locally and potentially quicker, walking into JB may not be such a bad idea (so long as they have stock). Cheers.
You could purchase gift cards at 5% discount which makes it slightly cheaper, also easier to deal with if warranty is ever required.
Do any JB's have a demo of these?
I have only ever seen a demo at Harvey's.
thanks for that, will have to check it out…
Keep in mind you'll need a pretty good PC to keep up with this.
I work with the Vive developing games and software and run an i7 6700K, 32GB ram and a 980GTX GPU.
That said the software is developing, and it's an INCREDIBLE experience to put the headset on.
thanks, i would need a gfx card too, looking at the 1080's for 700ish, but otherwise same specs as you.
sounds like you have a terrible job ;-)
It's for teaching purposes, so it's good and bad but there are definite perks!
I use it on an i5 with 970, and it runs The Lab great.
No need for a top of the line computer. That IS the top of the line computer.
@presentv: err… I realise this is ozbargains, but in what 3rd world country would consider that top of the line?
1060s perform better than 970s, and they can be had for sub $350 (source: MSY)
Any new ones coming out? I'd rather wait for second edition
Probably unlikely, but hey they might drop the price again for these ones later when new VR sets come out.
"Companies including Lenovo, HP, and Dell will be launching mid-range headsets for Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows Holographic platform — with prices starting in the USD$300 range. These products will be compatible with a wider range of PCs and are likely to put pressure on Facebook's and HTC's VR hardware offerings."

If they could make a version 2 that is also Wireless, now that would be good. It's inevitable, surely.
They have an accessory coming out soon that makes the current model wireless. Isnt cheap and only gets you 90 minutes though.
It's an issue of latency at the moment. Even the best wireless adapter still has 60 - 90 ms delay, which is enough to make you sick.
The change from a flat, three line cable to a single braided one has definitely helped the mobility of the Vive, and if you're able to use a hanging setup (even though they say not to) it can be really, really good to use without tripping up.
dont think its worth unless friends have one. gone back to playing pc games….
Are these better than the Samsung VR?
Vive is like PS4pro and Samsung is like NES mini.
Vive is like a Lexus, and Samsung is like a Toyota Yaris
I understand it is your first post however a simple search shows that it was posted today for $50 cheaper https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/300679
Unsure if it is local stock though or grey import
