Buy a cheap android device which takes a SIM.
Yeah Lukian is correct. Only way is to buy a cheap Android phone which has Google Play Store installed. You put the sim in the Android phone to make the $30 purchase, then put the sim back in the iOS phone for the remaining 28 days of the prepaid phone plan.
For those of us wanting to activate a new starter pack and keep our old Telstra number, Telstra wont let you do this online and therefore you need to chat with 24x7 Rep (nothing new here) - however what is new is that Reps are not able to port the old number across as part of the activation process anymore. They are saying that someone who wants to do this will need to go to a Telstra store to get a (free) blank sim.
I persevered with the activation under the promise that a number port could be done later (and take 48 hours) - I'll report back when this is complete. So far I've been waiting 15 hours for the activation email to come through.

Prepaid. No activation email arrived, but the starter pack sim is now active. I'll attempt the number port later.
Wow I thought only Optus allowed porting from one starter pack to another. I thought with Telstra you always had to port out to another provider and then back into another starter pack.
