Digital Radio Info Needed

A good friend's birthday is coming up and I know they want a digital radio for their home, but I know nothing about digital radios and don't want to spoil the surprise.

Anyone have one they recommend or ones to stay away from?

Any deals?

Thanks.

  • Hi,
    Check out the site:

You need to consider if your friend lives in an area where they can receive digital radio, how much you want to spend, battery or electric or rechargeable, for the home or portable…

Sangean is a brand you will see about the place.

Look for a shop that have them on display so that you can turn them on and listen to the sound quality. Harvey Norman or maybe JB Hi-Fi.

Thank you, I'll have a look. They live in the city and want one just for home use. I'm hoping not to spend more than $300.

Without knowing too much at all about them one thing that always puzzled me was the lack of twin speaker stereo models. IMHO always sounds better than mono with an equivalent speaker(s). My memory tells me some models had single speaker but stereo out??? Also stored away there - a reference to looking at the quality of the output screen for the song info - is it legible and does it have enough lines/area to display all the song info that might be coming down in a timely & legible format.

    • I agree - the proliferation of mono digital radios is just weird, it's almost like reverting to black & white TV! (Yes, young 'uns, monochrome TV was once very much a thing).

Yamaha make great three-piece mini-stereos that are also digital radios and the sound quality is excellent. Older models on special may be around the $300 budget.
