Just noticed the Huawei Y6 Elite 4G is on sale again, this time at Coles for $99 including the usual $40 Voda starter pack. OK everyday 4G phone for the money although the small 4Gb of phone storage is a problem with the amount of embedded bloat. Finishes this Wednesday, just two days to purchase. Locked to Voda but their are unlocking options around, worst case pay Voda $50 .. :-( .. !!

I bought two from Target in December on the same deal .. both 4Gb .. :-( .. !! So I'm constantly juggling app installations. Of course you could root the phone and scrub some of the bloat but that's a lot of work on a $99 phone …
Can't be, because the Huawei Y6 Elite comes with 8GB of internal storage as standard. It however is capable of 4G communications mode.
Wrong, at least for my Huawei Y6 Elite. Settings ->Storage -> Total Storage 8Gb Phone Storage 4Gb SD Card Storage 4Gb.
i would say its the Huawei y5ii http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_y5ii-8036.php
Well that would be misleading. Also that also says 8Gb storage…
link you provided - RAM 2gb -CPU SnapDragon completely off the mark
@rusty2k: Memory = 1/2 GB RAM - so I assume it comes in 2 varieties. CPU = Cortex-A7, chipset is snapdragon. Not sure why the chipset puts it completely off the mark, but anyway…
They seem like pretty similar phones, and both show 8GB storage which was what I was initially responding to.
Maybe explanation: I'm sure the initial version of EMUI showed the amount used out of a total of 4GB in the file browser; after I updated EMUI, it showed the amount used out of 8GB. I was struck by the change, because my usage % suddenly halved.
I looked at Emui, I'm up to date. I looked at the File app and it says the same as the Storage option in Settings, 4 Gb Phone Storage 4 Gb SD Storage. Some of the confusion here about Y6 storage sizes may arise from people looking at different Y6 models, which can range from 2 Gb to 16 Gb in phone storage. The RAM also comes in varying sizes. There are at least three Elite models on this site
http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei-phones-58.phpSettings->storage, 2nd line: "8.00 GB total", 4th line:"Total: 4.01GB, free: xxxMB" (nothing mounted under SD card.) It's not even internally consistent.
Different models on gsmarena seems common, but I'm surprised at differences in VF stock. FWIW IMHO I don't think the actual capacity differs, it's just some firmware nonsense.
BTW: I got mine from coles, just before the end of the $50 giftcard sale@yow:
I think your right. Mine was showing only 1GB free after installing some apps and doing a Emui software update last year, but after doing a factory reset, I clawed back around 500 Mb after installing same apps and updates. There was a comment by a fellow OzBargainer who did this and thought to try also with good same result. Still getting low on memory now after some use, but good phone for the money.
good phone for the money.
It's four times cheaper and twice the resolution and GPU cores of my previous phone (which itself was excellent value, a 2016 ozbargain special). Value-wise, where can I go from here…
Which is the better phone, this one or Telstra 4GX HD?
This one has 'elite' in its name.
But the other is HD.
Needs to have Pro or Ultra in the name at a minimum
Marketing pro over here.
Alcatel Pop 5 for $60 was a better deal IMO. Using this budget phone right now.
Have used both. The Y6 is a faster phone with better ui for me and works well on the Vodafone 4G B5 850mHz band which the Pop 5 lacks. The Pop 5 does work well for Optus 4G as it has the 2600mHz band that Optus uses in many areas. Great battery life but slower CPU for the Pop 5.
Also the Y6 can be unlocked for around $18 but the Pop 5 much harder and mainly at Optus from my efforts.
Im using the POP5 with Vaya(Optus) so unlocking is not an issue. Definitely can't have too many apps running in the background with 1gb memory limitation,
Yep, both these phones have only 1GB eam. Just get in the habit of closing unused apps during the day or evening, saves power too. I think you mean the Alcatel Pop 4 5", people often mix them up.
Great value phone with nice screen and camera for $60, I got mine for that price too at the half price Target sale when just released.@ozhunter68: I bought my gf a cheap and nasty $30 ZTE phone recently but because it is running Android 5.0 it is far more memory efficient and the OS uses fewer resources than the more memory hungry Android 6.0.
However, that particular phone has had constant issues with poor call quality and loose charging and headphone ports , and bluetooth pairing problems on top of that, so might need to claim under warranty as the phone is less than 6 months old!
I felt bad for buying her such a cheap phone but next time I will spend a bit more and get her something better quality.I digress, but this is my first Android phone after using a windows phone for the past 3 years and decided it was time to switch back to a mainstream OS so that I could enjoy the wonderful Play store and all the apps I've been missing out on.
I bought one of these for a relo when it had the Sim Pack and $50 EFTPOS Card. I'm pretty sure it has 8GB Internal Storage rather than 4GB.
