Looking for a Data Sharing Plan for 50-70 data-only devices (Sydney)

Hi,

I'm looking for a good deal for a data-sharing SIM/Plan for 50-70 devices.

We expect to use about ~300Mb/device/month so any plan sharing would work well for us.
Preference would be to commit to 70 devices/sims over first 3 months (20-25-25).

Advice, ideas, options?

Thanks,
Corneliu.

Speak to Optus, Telstra and Vodafone business departments, they'll be able to do a deal based on your requirements

I strongly doubt anyone here will have access or have any idea for 70 devices IMHO, it will be much easier to get a quote for your business and get the right solution

    • I talked to Telstra but their offer felt way too expensive.

Considering I was looking at a tender covering 17,000 mobile payment terminals last month, that might not be true ;-)

70 devices isn't going to excite the big corporate guys, but I would suggest your local Telstra dealer if you need the coverage of the Telstra network, or Voda or Optus small business segment if you can deal with their lesser coverage.

Since I happened to look at this type of requirement for a SCADA application last year, I can advise that ALDI mobile pay as you go is the cheapest for absolute dollar savings for low usage (I was looking at dozens of megabytes, not hundreds) but has none of the fleet management tools you will need to handle this.
In my case, I could just prepay $10 per device and do it again 12 months later, you will need to be a bit more sophisticated.
In any case, I think you will struggle to get it under $10 per sim, and I would be very surprised if you can go under $5. The structure of most business plans has a $5 or $10 fee for the SIM, then you add the pooled call/data credit on top.

out of curiosity, how did you deal with the non-static IP address issues that 'consumer' sim cards have?
Unsolicited messaging only? And do a fixed wired IP as opposed to everything being mobile?

        • Yeah, no requirement to connect to the remote devices. They were just posting power usage information to a central web site.

        • Dynamic DNS?

        • @fruit:

the SCADA devices hanging off these things often dont have the ability to communicate with such services

Bit of a difference between the average user and yourself so i stand by my comment

    What does 20-25-25 mean?

    • 20 devices activated first month, 25 devices activated second month, 25 devices activated third month

Check out M2Mone - Telstra reseller who fits your requirements: http://www.m2mone.com.au

The online sim management portal (jasper) is a Telstra service with a minimum obligation (big $$$ especially if you only have a few devices) per month to access the platform before sim charges.

M2Mone gives you all the features of telstras M2M platform without the minimum obligation, but for a fractionally higher monthly plan price.

For example, 300mb pool data is $11.40pm - every sim on the same pool size contributes an extra 300mb to the pool, which any device can then use more or less than 300mb as long as the total pool quota does not get exceeded.

I am not affiliated with m2mone or Telstra, however have recently crossed the same path as OP and this was the most economical solution for our needs, as it is completely scalable from a few devices to thousands of devices under the same accounting and management portal.

    • This great for the OP's requirement, especially if they can squeeze down the data required.

  • Just chucke them all on $10/month Kogan plans with 1GB/device ;)
