Apart from Just Vacuuming How Do You Clean Your Carpets?

Let's say for a high shoe foot traffic carpet for whatever reason how would you clean it? Do you guys hire or own your own wet carpet cleaner and etc accessories.

I have a vacuum for dust and dirt particles but want to laundry clean my carpet somehow for lack of words so that it is smelling fresh and feels clean and brand new.

Obviously hiring professionals seem like a good and proper option but for a small home with maybe only 3 medium sized rooms and a few hallways to clean what are my options?

Carpet owners how do you fully clean your carpet?

  • I've contemplated this many times myself but the cost of anything decent is too much as oppose just hiring someone to come on and do the work for ya.

  • I have to use a portable steam cleaner because the cat makes a bit of a mess at time.
I also the the steam clean to clean the bathroom. Works well.

    • what steam cleaner do you have?
How much was it and how long have you had it?

i see the deals come up every now and again but not sure if i should actually get one haha.

    • I had one for $80 from ebay. It lasted about 2 years. It is exactly like this

I am going to get a small hand steamer next. More portable for me and I only need to spot clean the carpet not clean the entire carpet

  • We have a carpet cleaner/vacuum cleaner thing and my dad makes us clean our carpet annually…

  • we have quite a large house so we hired the water cleaning vacuum from woolies and i did it all myself, upstairs and downstairs.
Hired the thing on a friday night and returned it monday morning.
the most annoying part is stopping to move stuff around everytime.
it is actually quite surprising at how much excess dirt is stuck inside your carpet.

if you plan to buy one from Godfreys, don't get their own brands or listen to the salesman, do your research before you buy and don't let the salesman change your mind coz he is just thinking of how to make his highest margins.
if you just want to do a small entrance way then maybe just get a wet and dry vac from bunnings. i have one in case one of my cats makes a mess on the carpet and i need to do some spot cleaning. works great with just some warm water and lots of sucking, just needs a lot of elbow grease where as the ones you hire from woolies you can stand there and use it like a normal vacuum.

Also if you own a 3 bedroom house it can be good to use those coupons you find in catalogues and what not but when we were deciding whether we want to do it ourselves or hire someone i did so much research about the companies and many complaints i found online were dodgy cleaners that didnt move stuff around and just did it around couches and the beds or they left the carpet looking dirtier than before.
i did notice that some people that complained left a comment on productreview which got the store rep to handle it but not sure how they were resolved.

  • You may want to consider investing in a wet carpet cleaner. This one is relatively cheap - Wertheim SE2000 Deep Cleaning Carpet Shampooer - $99 now.

For the small home, this is probably good enough for your needs; plus it will be light and rather easy to use. Compared to renting, you will recoup the cost after a few times of use.

The last time someone asked about this issue, less than 3 months ago, this cleaner was selling for $149.

  • +2

    With my tongue

    • +1

OP asked how you clean it not how you get it more dirty

  • We just get the professional and save my energy to move the furniture.
The cost is so cheap you wonder why you'd bother all the hassles in hiring equipment and buying stuff, and still don't know what you're doing.
He's got a big sucker machine which he left at the front porch.
Since I want proper job done, we move most things away from the carpet and store them in garage and tiled area.
The last visit he found carpet moth on the ceiling ad carpet! We were oblivious that they have been living with us all these months! We won't know f they were staring at us…. This has been treated and we make sure they didn't comeback.
Btw, our guy also clean mattress and couch. Next visit maybe.
The disappointing part is there's no ice fragrance smell. He use "healthy" stuff. So I spray with my own freshener hehe.

  • Choice recently reviewed this idea and the cleaners. I think hiring a cleaner occasionally (at least 6 months between cleanings)is more cost effective if you want the best results. A carpet deodoriser can also extend the time between cleanings.

  • Hiring a carpet cleaner every now and then can ensure your carpet is clean throughout the year. Some companies make great carpet cleaning products. If there is a stain on the carpet, there are certain carpet cleaning products that can clean the stain up.
