Ideas for Wedding Gift - How to Give Cash

Hi bargain people

So my bro is getting married this year and I want to give the newlyweds $1000 as their gift. What's the most creative way to do this besides just stuffing cash in an envelope? I thought about giving them a 1K gift card but I don't even think that's possible as most gift cards are max like $200.

Any ideas? And if it involves sending you the cash and you delivering it to them, maybe not

I just want to clarify I am not planning to give them eneloop batteries. My dollar figures were auto converted lol

Perfect wedding gift. Very practical as well even if you don't use it for trading :)

      if only i could recharge my $5 note back a a $50

  • You might be as well, but what about offering to completely pay for some part of the wedding. Hall hire, car hire, bar tab, entertainer/DJ, honeymoon suite upgrade.
Got to be careful not to step on the brides family's responsibilities though.

As a couple who asked for contributions to the wishing well, we really appreciated cash. I know you are trying to make it extra special for them, but sometimes the simpler the better. Gift cards are nice, but it does force them to purchase from a store they may not have had any intention to purchase from.

We had a few people give us cash after the wedding day cause they were concerned it might go missing on the night

In the end whichever way you decide to do it, it will definitely be highly appreciated by them :)

Are they Asian? Red packets FTW! You could even paint old eneloop packets red for that extra bling.

  • Direct Deposit or Paypal?

do it euro style - cash is safety pinned to the wedding dress.

    Obviously pay in ENE

  • I once went to a wedding where the couple asked explicitly for cash in the invitation. I found this crass; I had a mental image of them leaving the reception dressed as bank robbers. So I gave them what they wanted in coins, presented in a sack with a dollar sign on it.

How about give them a personal cheque in an envelop and write something nice on a separate card? Cheque is better than cash especially only the named person can claim it so it's guaranteed not to be lost.

I keep on reading "envelope" as "eneloop" ARGH

  • Latest wedding I've been invited to - the bride wanted to see if she could open a registry at a dental supplies store - she wants money to start her own business ()@#@)(# WTF

5000 20c pieces in a sack with a big $ on the side? OK, just checked, that is 56kg of coins. 1000 $1 coins weighs 9kg, a little more manageable, but still impressively meaty.

  • Asian style red packets. I've never had anyone complain about those when I've gifted them as wedding gifts to non-Asians.

  • We gave our friends prepaid visa card. He couldnt be happier. He had lots of stuff for his wedding, but nothing takes up less space than cash. I had a hard time convincing my other friends that this is the best option. I said, "If it is good enough for the Asians, it is good enough for them. Either we give them cash to do whatever they want. Or we give them a puppy and a kitten."

We settle on a prepaid visa card.

  • you can get Giftcards in $500 denominations and $1000

I'd suggest you print a pretty photo of the couple and get two $500 cards
    and maybe 1x $500 Only1Visa and 1x $500 eftpos for flexibility

  • I've used some very pretty Chinese red packets, they are big and written with nice greeting. You can actually put 10x$100 notes but if I'm the couple I really don't like to handle cash on that day.
Another option is to get a bank cheque.
Someone mentioned MasterCard I've never tried. But had seen Newsagent sells special wedding card with slot for gift/debit card.
Don't forget to write a nice speech :-)

  • Don't give them a gift card, unless they specify a store they want it to be attached to and they want to buy something big immediately. The studies show that a lot of the cards are wasted. I think a very nice card with a cheque inside would be a good idea.
