Banana Plugs - Are They Worth It?

Just wondering if anyone uses banana plugs on their amps? Are they actually worth it in terms of sound quality, or is it just the convenience factor if you're moving your amp all the time?

If anyone has them, where do you get them from and what should I be looking for?

  • I use them in my home theatre - predominantly for the convenience if I ever have to move them. I used to spend an hour or so rewiring everything and now having a plug and play system is much better.

I haven't noticed a sound difference at all, if you have good cables that are wired in properly then you shouldn't have an issue. I bought a few bulk packets off eBay very cheaply without issue.

  • +1

They are useful to ensure decent connections, but if you pay attention when wiring it then it is the same in terms of sound.

  • I use them on my two sets of speakers. Don't do anything for sound quality, but veeeeeeeeery convenient when moving around/cable managing.

I use Kordz plugs on one set, and an eBay set (listed below) on another, but most brands should do. Can't go wrong with anything from Selby's. Bunnings also have a reasonably priced set. If aesthetics don't matter, these can also work.

  • when I was into hifi I swore by them… simply because I could not stand twisting wires like a hobo trying to force them into spring clips… this is why I do not buy equipment with spring clips

i can twist wire ONCE but it has to be into a banana plug

also banana plugs have long been non EU compliant for obvious reasons
