Sales Operations/Program coordinator

Hi guys, looking for a bit of help as last time i nailed my interview with a bit of your help. I'm going for a job which is sales operations and also named junior program coordinator .

I'm coming from an accounts background although just started my course in project management. Looking to see if anyone here works in that industry or that role which i can ask a few questions.
They say alot of work is handling sales data/project data in excel etc. What does that normally involve?
I'm good with excel from working in accounts so wondering what most of that work would entail and also what does managing a sales program usually involve?

Cheers

  • I think it might help if you add the industry you will be in.

  • Sales data is likely to be more extensive than accounts data. Accounts data is typically more aggregated and at a higher level than sales data. So techniques for managing sales data will likely involve validating, summarising and processing large amounts of (possibly disaggregated) data, rather than developing functional relationships between accounts data items.

I find sales data much more interesting to work with than accounts data because the potential questions and insights are much more broad, and there are more opportunities to develop interesting views and relationships.

I presume when they say 'project data', they are referring to project progress indicators, but can't be sure.

    • So in real world terms apart from cleaning up the data what are you actually doing to it etc. Would you have any tips i can use to show that i could be proficient in transferring my skills over?

      • Initially, setting up controls, reasonable tests, summary macros, exception and daily reports. Easier to know once you get into the data.

But before you can say anything you also need a sense of volume: is it just a few products, over how many days, how often do sales occur, how many items in a sale, etc. Until you know this, very hard to say anything.
