I am on ADSL + 2 with Telstra. I pay $73 per month for 100GB my max download speed is 333kpbs and i am not happy.

    • Hmm thanks for your input hope you find a better deal

      • +1

As of this weekend I'm on the Optus Home Wireless Broadband @ $60 a month. I am consistently getting 12 mbps down.

  • +3

ADSL 2 - with iiNet 9 years now.

Issues started creeping in when TPG took them over last year - multiple dropouts a day escalating to multiple dropouts an hour.

Perhaps they trying to get rid of me for I have not been on a contract for 7 years now.

Having said that the technicians who have been attending my premises at various times are none too complimentary of TPG.

    • +1

      much the same

      Naked ADSL

was Adam - sold to iinet

      200gb $50 which I'm happy about

line quality has always been average since moving in 5 years ago - 7+ km line length

service with iinet is so poor, Adam was always good.

      NBN coming in Jun.

been off contract for a couple of years, not signing up until switch over to nbn.

    • Wow 9 years

      • along with that comes free local and intrastate/interstate calls as well

    Previous- Adsl2+ Club Telco $40pm unlimited,constant 20 Mbps, never a problem.
Current- NBN/landline, My Republic 100/40 unlimited $59.Love it.

    • +1

how are you finding your wifi speeds and speeds at peak times?

    • +1

      @nocure That's a good deal ADSL 2 + club telco 40 pm

      • Still currently available but now they have added an $80 yearly fee.

I am not happy because I have the choice of ADSL or Telstra cable (not NBN area yet) so I have no choice really since ADSL no longer functions in Australia.

As you would expect with no competition the prices are outrageous: $109.95 for 1TB (metered uploads) at 100Mbit/2.5Mbit. I had to fight to get this price as Telstra obviously charges as much as it can with various devices for idiots to use such as "speed boosts" and "bonuses" where users choose to pay mopre for things they can get for nothing from Telstra.

(profanity) Turnbullshit, Telstra's most important employee first as Communications Minister and then PM.

Previous: Spirit FTTB (not NBN) 20 megabit down, unsure of up but usually got around 5, unlimited data for $46 a month. Was incredibly happy with this service, on the two occasions it went down they would send me an SMS telling me that it was out, what had happened and the expected restoration time. Usually this was about 1.5 hours and both times it was back on within about 45 minutes.

Current: TPG ADSL2+ and home phone unlimited bundle, $60/month. Placed my order, took them a week to tell me that my installation was to be 17 days after I originally placed the order. Not a good start.

    • +1

So why did you leave Spirit FTTB ?

      • +1

Moved from Southbank to South Melbourne because my housemate moved to Singapore :(

  • +1

TPG ADSL, unlimited, $60/month, stable at 12-18mbps (my place is just <1km from their gateway)
    I'm happy

I know a friend with Optus ADSL, unlimited, $60/month … stable at 2-3mbps, 4km from gateway
He might be happy but I'm not

  • +3

Optus cable, $80 for unlimited download, get around 30 Mb/s down. Very reliable

    happy

    • @slow glad to hear you are happy

  • +3

    NBN TPG- FTTH
    $99 UNlimited
    100/40

Full speed all the time, no problems.

These threads are pointless - someone can have a great experience with ISP X, others have a poor experience. Too many other factors involved then just the company.

  • +1

Telstra cable, 1TB, 114Mb down, 2Mb up with the crappiest Foxtel package and POTS line rental = $89.

    Happy as.

  • +1

    TPG $60/mo unlimited ADSL2+
    Speedtest 14Mbps/1.1Mbps

Happy - no problems or dropouts but sometimes wish NBN was available (for the big xbox downloads)

    • @blonky glad to hear you are happy

  • +1

TPG ADSL2+ unlimited since 2010 at two different addresses, very happy. Have had line faults that were resolved by Telstra techs. No complaints about customer service, I've never experienced wait times anything close to what iiNet customers have been reporting.

Never experienced any congestion on ADSL2+ but I am aware it's present on NBN across many providers due to the government/NBN Co charging way too much for the CVC backhaul and the ISP/RSPs not being able to buy enough without charging consumers $200 a month.

Maybe you can have Aldi offer this service. Ask then when you give your online shopping executive presentation.. 😀

I'm with TPG - have a home phone and NBN bundle.
So long as you don't need them to do anything slightly helpful, they are fine.
Here's what happened to me yesterday when I had a problem:
My home phone has been out for a couple weeks. Internet and WiFi were fine. Just can't use the landline ( technically voip). The wife tried to call tpg several times but never could get through. I registered a service complaint through their website on Saturday.
They called this morning - at 6am. I called them back and, after being on the phone to them for an hour and a half, i now still have no phone AND I HAVE NO INTERNET EITHER!
Even though they knew the phone line was down they told me to do a hard reset on the modem. That then meant i needed to reconfigure the modem - but the reconfig wouldn't go through because THE PHONE LINE IS DOWN. In case you hadn't noticed, i am furious.
They are sending out a new modem. When i asked what they were going to do about my now having no internet they offered to send out the modem urgently… I told them i had assumed they would be doing that anyway. I asked if they were at least going to compensate me for the time i don't have any service from them. They said they'd make a request. They then asked me if there was anything else they could do for me today??? I pointed out that since the only services i receive from tpg are home phone and Internet and i now had neither of those i doubted it but if they were able to cut off my power or water I'm sure they would. I closed by pointing out that tpg offered a wonderful service if you never actually require any service.
No WiFi and no Internet make Blairy something something…
    Go crazy?
    Don't mind if i do.

TL:DR - Before I sought TPG troubleshooting assistance I had no landline but my internet was fine. After I went through their troubleshooting I had no landline AND no internet. And they are making me wait on a new modem…

    • +1

You don't need a working VoIP service to configure a modem that has been factory reset. It sounds like your modem is cactus which is why they are sending you out a new one. What else could any ISP have done at that point if after factory resetting the modem, the internet didn't come back up?

I'd be frustrated like just you are too, but it's the nature of the beast. Factory resetting a modem that was still performing it's main duty (internet connection) shouldn't cause it to not work anymore at all, but it can happen.

      • We tried another modem and its still not working.
Got to assume its the line - but the internet was working fine until they had me do the reset???
I can't work it out - but I still have no internet and am not happy.

We have been with iinet for 20 years plus. We were with ihug before they became iinet.Obviously happy to be with all these years until tpg took over. Lost the internet, contacted them they said it was line. Contacted telsta for landline, they said why were we contacting them it was iinets problem. Insisted they check line, it was ok. Back to iinet backwards and forwards for 3 days. Kept getting someone different, first it was line, no its not! Ok reconfigure modem multiple times. Still no good. We can send a tech but wil probably cost you as it is a problem in your house. Can you borrow another modem?. Complained bitterly, did I want to lodge a complaint? I said why bother. Iinet rang 10pm and said was I unhappy? What could they do to make me happy. I said fix the internet!!. They said oh you have been a customer of ours for a long time. They then asked me to hold the line, 10 minutes of holding I hung up. Shortly the phone goes and I was accused of hanging up on them. I said yes I was sick of holding the line!!
Still no joy, we went through reconfiguring again and was told it was line. We gave up and was in the process of looking at other companies and surprise the internet was back. Only problem we couldn't access because iinet had changed password. Another phone call and all is ok. We are looking at moving soon and will not be going with iinet!!

Telstra ADSL2+ $90 per month for 1TB (Medium Bundle Plan on 24 month contract includes home phone but i haven't even got that plugged in). 5mbps down. Used to be 15mbps but has been gradually slowing down over the past few years. Occasionally drops out for 30 seconds, especially when gaming, even on 3 different modems. Not very happy.

Getting NBN FTTN in 2 months. Node is on next door neighbours front lawn, so should hopefully be speedy. Only 2 houses on the street and neighbour is 90 so shouldn't be any congestion right? Wanting to get at least tier 3 speeds, depending on cost. Can anyone tell me what speed tier they will put me on when I get the NBN under my current contract? Will it be tier 1 or tier 2? And does anyone know how much extra it costs to upgrade to tier 2/3/4?? Struggling to find this information.

  • +2

$30 dodo unlimted whats to complain about?

    • @tonyjzx you are right

  • +1

Yes I am happy as I'm only paying $59.99 for unlimited myrepublic nbn with speeds of 86Mbps down and 37Mbps up. Ping with previous ISP (exetel) was 15ms now it has gone down to 8ms!!

  • +3

Not happy when I know peeps in Asia have speeds of up to 1Gbps for years now. Feels like Australia is left behind.

    • +2

I feel ya but even NBN without the backhaul means we still get adsl like speeds.

This country is a technological backwater so this is what you get when one company dominates the landscape.

  • +1

cable for 2 years. previously getting 2mbps. now 120. not bad!
only thing is paying telstra buckets of cash.

  • +2

Government wants speed at all costs. Companies want profits. Consumers get stuffed.

Without proper regulation the consumer will always get shafted. Currently there's damn all consumer power in Oz, and until people try to change that people will be unhappy.

No-one enforces anything anymore. The TIO is a joke, the Accc are a joke, and half the states have no fair trading tribunals now.
When you have a problem you are on your own, and whoever it is knows it.

So if you get what you pay for be happy, when you don't you will be unhappy and I wish you all the luck in the world trying to sort it out from a position of total weakness.

    • +2

Government wants speed at all costs.

      Which government is this?

You can't be talking about the Australian government, and its wrecker Mins for Comms Turnbull and Fifield.

  • +1

Been on FW NBN for about three years here. Was great until about 6 months ago now getting bulk tower congestion after 3:30 PM and all weekend. Am nagging my ISP about it.

FTTN NBN 500gb 100mps $70.00 month Aussie broadband Speeds excellent service Excellent been with them about 6 months

  • Nbn. Not happy with congestion.

    • @captobvious yes congestion is one of the problem

    • Who is your isp though?

Optus Entertainment Bundle - unlimited internet, home phone line rental and standard calls, fetch TV and premium channels. We pay $70 per month.
    ADSL, 14mbps download.

Very happy with what we get for that price.

      @jeka1103 good on ya

  • +1

    TPG $60/month ADSL2+ Unlimited with Home Phone. 10mbps download / 0.7 upload.
Overall I'm happy with it for watching HD content.
But sometimes unhappy with it because I'm streaming Low Quality content with a tiny 240p resolution 700kbps upload.

Wish NBN was available in my area so I can up my video bitrate and resolution.

  • +1

Exetel LBNCo. $70pm for 25/5Mbps. Rarely drops below 20Mbps. After a frustrating setup process, have been very happy with the service.

  • +1

    Telstra 1000gb NBN 100/40 - FTTP. $99 w/Foxtel

    I'm happy.

  • +2

$80/mth for Telstra cable at 100mbps with 500GB.. very happy.

  • +1

Internode naked inlimited $69 i get over a megabyte a sec, torrents box limited to 500k/5k and still enough bw for hulu, abc kids, voip. Its rock solid. Never had a issue, outage or copyright infringement notice in 4 years. Torrent box now using ipvanish…jumped ship from from tpg, as they were hopeless for streaming.

  • +1

Exetel NBN 100/40, 100gb/month, $80/month includes Voip calls to Aust Mobiles, National and Local. Add $46 for separate Foxtel Basic plus 1 extra pack. Total $126/month. Excellent.

  • +1

I am on an unlimited ADSL2 plan with Dodo for $69.99/month (Regional Qld). I'm going on my 3rd month and it has only dropped out twice for short periods. My only complaint is with customer service. I was promised a sign up bonus but they refuse to give it to me because "there are no notes on my account." I should have got it in writing before handing over my credit card number.

  • +2

happy is a relative term ive got a good connection, bandwith and prize, by australian standards, its a joke otherwise

    • @furys12 definitely it is a relative term , similar to other things in life which are relative.

  • +3

As a point of comparison, I am in north east Thailand - not in a provincial capital.

    For ~$34/month I am getting:

    • HFC cable internet (Docsis 3) unlimited @ 50/20, which is very reliable

    • ~100 channels on cable TV (which includes the AFL)

    • 4G mobile, including 100 minutes, 500MB (shaped after that) and 10 hours of WiFi (where available)

    I am very happy. :-)

    • @jackspratt good on ya mate.

    • +1

What's the average wage there so we can tell if $34 is cheap or not. It doesn't sound that good.

      • From my perspective, the average wage here is irrelevant.

I am more than happy with the services I am receiving vis-à-vis the price I am paying.

  • TPG NBN 100/400 Unlimited @ $99 with full speed most of the time.

I'm pretty happy with it but considering whether to switch to something cheaper like MyRepublic.

Main concern is that the quality may drop after switching especially after reading all the horror stories with MR.

    • good on ya @JLHC , you will have to either take the risk of switching over or remain happy with what in hand.

  • +1

Telstra nbn 100/40 1TB $120. Very happy. In 4.5 years it has been down only 3 times.

  • +2

Im on Optus Cable, does what it says on the tin.

Unlimited 100mbps internet (no slowdowns here)

    Fetch TV, (never use)

the only problem is 1.9mbps uploads. I signed up for it, but 1.9mbps doesn't cut it anymore, doesn't work with Ring doorbell most of the time, remote CCTV is near useless.

    $79 a month.

    • Mate, how are you able to get that at $79 a month? I tried to live chat one of the guys (who was extremely slow and sounded terribly trained) and after an hour of trying to get him to throw in speed boost to the $80/month plan, he said he couldn't give it to me.

      • I rung up about 5 times, the first 4 guys wouldn't give me the boost. The last person did it.

        • How'd the conversation go? Do you just ask for free speed boost straight up? And also, different days or consecutively?

        • @Vyrocious: Over about a week. Told them I had Telstra and I wanted to change, but they needed to give me a better offer. Told them I was happy with the $79 plan, but I wouldn't change unless I got the speed pack for free. First 4 guys wouldn't budge, 5th person did.

        • @Burnertoasty:

I see, have been an Optus customer for over 5 years even though they've disappointed me countless times. Really hope I can get something like this soon.

  • Optus Cable; $110 -> $90 with Optus mobile phone plan
    Unlimited with 100Mbs speed pack
    never see that speed
    4Mbs max during peak
    40Mbs every other time
not happy; too much congestion… no NBN in area yet
optus techs just keep telling me to restart modem or computer, nothing ever works

  • Vividwireless - I get 10-12mbps late at night or 5am but 2-3 mbps during evenings. It used to be good few months ago but I think too many people have joined in my area.

I just disconnected Telstra ADSL where I was getting under 2mbps and costing me $100/month. NBN has been delayed until mid next year in my area.

    Not happy.

  • Skymesh $55 a month custom Plan
    $50 setup fee
    1 year contract
    50/20 Tier 3 speed, 500Gigs
    Slight congestion but not severe.
7PM-10PM will have moderate congestion to American servers (because of poor backhaul capacity: vocus)

    • May I ask how you achieved this custom plan?

      • +1

plan matching. I asked them to match Teleron during Xmas last year.

no longer possible because Teleron changed prices.

  • Paying $59.90 for FTTB in Sydney CBD (speed 93mbps download 36mbps upload, unlimited data and no congestion). I think I'm pretty happy.
