I use Coles e-gift cards to pay for all my shopping. I have been printing them and using them that way and it has been less than ideal. The printed barcodes don't like registering with the self service scanner and I almost give up trying. I used to have to enter the enormous number written on the e-gifts (this number is so inconveniently large) I am not sure if I can enter numbers with the new system, so my long winded question is: Can I use the new scanner boxes on the top right of the self service units if I just have a jpeg image of the e-gift card barcode? I am slowly moving my shopping and petrol needs to woolies, since they are at least more flexible in this regard. Thanks every one.
Can I Use Coles E-Gift Cards without Printing Them?

I am going to try Stocard in a minute.
For what it's worth, I tried buying a discounted Coles e-gift card, took me about 5 attempts to spend it. Wouldn't scan on my phone, wouldn't scan from a printout, people at the registers didn't know how to process ("We've just had a new system put in"), etc etc. I bought it as an experiment to see if it was worth the hassle, and I decided the answer was a big fat no!
I know what you mean. I avoid going to manned checkouts because most of them don't know how to process it. When you say it didn't work on your phone, did you try scanning the barcode with the new box-like scanner they have for flybuys?
I think that's where it eventually ended up working. I decided it wasn't worth the hassle all up, I won't bother with them again unless something drastically changes.
I have had varied success with this. Like you say, the best way is to use the flybys scanner. Have the phone on nice and bright. Then it seems to be an annoying game of trying to get the phone at the right angle so that the barcode reads. It usually works but sometimes takes some effort. The Woolworths App is fantastic compared to Coles system. I usually have no problem scanning the printed gift card through the self scanner. But don't like carrying the piece of paper around in case I lose it with the pin on it.
Thanks, didn't realise there is an app for the Woolworths egiftcard. I have been opening the pdf up on my phone when paying. Lol.
How do you do this. I have the app and the gift card details are there, but there is no image to use. Using Woolworths Money app
Likewise there is no bar code on the pdf either
For e-gift cards at Woolworths? Through self scanner at least select eGift Card when you get to payment options. Then on the app you type the top number on the pinpad followed by pin (the number where is states For In-Store redemption please enter:). No barcodes at all at Woolworths using this method.
Yes thats what I do.
I read your comment
I usually have no problem scanning the printed gift card through the self scanner
..as being for Woolies since you were talking about the Woolies app being fantastic then you went on to say you had no issues with scanning the printed card. Guess you had switched back to talking about the Coles card being ok to scan.
Thanks for clearing it up. Thought I might have missed something.
While the Woolies app is good, if it also displayed a barcode to use, that would make it better
I have only had one time where the flybuys scanner didn't work, I then handed I to the checkout operator who simply swiped like it was a product.
no issues.
I cut barcode and numbers out and tape it to flybuys card - less likely to lose it (my wifes idea). can even write remaining balance on it after each spend.
The problem with cutting out and taping to the flybuys card would be the fact that the coles egift card barcodes are enormous.
never had a problem, maybe print at 95% size or so.
I've done this as well and it works well. I am always losing things so store the pin in my phone separate to the barcode.
I use a screenshot of the GC barcode on my phone. Make sure your screen is bright, and don't use any zoom. The mini-flybuys scanner machine should pick it up.
That said, it's a lot more hassle than the superb Woolies eGift card experience.
I was just at Coles and used the Stocard app with the flybuys scanner. It worked perfectly. Looks like I no longer need to print those terrible barcodes anymore.
That's nice to hear, makes me want to try the Stocard app but I don't expect it'll show up available for Windows Mobile lol.
(without further digression)
With Coles' new system, customers CANNOT type in the eGiftCard number any more on their own. The staff need to switch the interface to a 'staff mode', then it'll allow you options to enter the number (30 digits). I was at the self-checkout machines trying for ~5 minutes before a staff come to help, and that was the very first day of the updated system. Is Stocard similar to Samsung Pay or Android Pay?
I am a new user for Samsung Pay and I've been trying to see if its possible to store the Coles eGiftCard in there too.
Will try soon.
I've tried a few times an none of the staff have known how to put it through and given up every time. Coles egift cards are just the biggest fail. I've ended up just getting in touch with them to demand a real gift card to replace it. Definitely sticking to woolies. Much much easier.
Too lazy to type so I am just gonna paste what I've written on another thread..
I always use discounted egiftcards from AGL rewards on self checkouts. Just choose pay via card and then it will ask you to tap card or SCAN egiftcard. Scan it on the barcode scanner behind the eftpos terminal. Position your phone 4-6 inches below the scanner and wait for the beep. Then just type in the PIN on the EFTPOS keypad. If your remaining balance is below your purchase amount, click partial payment and then it will ask you how much so you have to know how much is remaining on your gift card so you can make the most out of it.
Or you can go the lady at the check out counter and they will do it for you. After a few seconds of fiddling around, they will then call a senior staff while the queue behind you builds up. Then they still struggle with it so you just take out your credit card and be done with it. LOL.
Yes, and they will ask a lot of questions, such as "Where did you get this from?" which I find a tad intrusive. They made me feel like I was doing the wrong thing.
lucky enough to read this thread before ordering one
Using the stockcard app scan the Coles eGift card, the barcode will be auto installed in stockcard, mark the pin under the note, every time shopping in Coles just open that app, all good to go. It’s quite simple.h
Yes. Or use Stocard
