How does the $5 Amazon app coupon referrals work?

I seem to get emails from Amazon saying that my referral was successful which grants me $5. I assume it's from Ozbargainers who claim a random referral link when they are about to purchase something from Amazon, which is very nice of them.

However I don't really know how it works.

To try to clarify, what does this coupon be used for? Can I simply buy some physical goods at Amazon and have it automatically discounted? Do I need to use the amazon app for this? How do I use this $5 coupon?

I haven't been able to figure it out and I'm hoping someone may know.

You need to click on the referral link, download the app, and then purchase from the app.

    Look for items sold by Amazon (that aren't digital), click through and it should show the discount at checkout. Purchase price has to be over US$10 though

      It's still showing as full price to me.
