  • I know that the only "approved way" of blocking Isocyanates is with a positive pressure mask.
But will these masks "Help reduce" the exposure somewhat?

I got lost trying to research 3M's site on which ones will, and wont, filter isocyanates AT ALL, since they will only advise "positive feed"….

I only want to do outdoor well ventilated touch-up-gun jobs on things like rims. So I'm not investing in a positive suit.

    • Charcoal filter and you'll be right.

    • On their product selection guide, under Floor sanding -> "hand application of 2 pack paint" they suggest their 6051 cartridge. for spraying 2 pack they always suggest a fresh air feed.

Another document suggests pairing this with a 5925 filter and 501 retainer.

      • Thank you for your advice.
I know the 'risk' and 'exposure' I'll still get using 2k and a face mask, but really, "90% protection" is all i'm after.

I know its nasty stuff, and some people only get the one chance, but really, I just want to paint some shiz, it'll be well ventilated, I'll be wearing long sleeves and goggles; I just want something to not breathe it, for a once or twice use only.

        • Yeah sounds like the 6051 cartridge is what you're after then.. I have no idea about this stuff.. I've just got good Google-fu skills :)

  • Do you sell the cartridges separately? Looking for some replacements.

    • As the title states, it comes with 6001 replacement cartridges.
You might as well just buy the item advertised.

are these good for meth labs?

  • +5

I not sure if it's the same thing but I suspect they're both from China http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Free-Shipping-3M-7502-7-Piece-Sui…

    • LOL, I was about to say the same thing.

Bought 2 sets around $35 with free shipping last year. They work very well so far.

    • +1

You think it's real? There's a lot of fakes out of China especially with 3M products

    • +2

With cheap Chinese knockoffs no way I'd trust my lungs to cheap importers of filters from unknown origins.

For the sake of what, $20-30 in savings? Just buy the real deal folks from local stock guys. Seriously.

      • I'm not sure that the Chinese masks/filters are necessarily knock-offs. There's so much pollution in China and so much manufacturing/industrial work that these masks and filters are commonplace and also would sell in volumes that are OOM larger. Plus the masks/filters are probably all made in China anyway.

        • I misspoke.

I don't mean ALL Chinese masks are knock-offs, I mean there's A LOT of cheap crap manufactured there that's labelled one thing and is another thing entirely.

At least with local product you have some ('some') level of assurance that what you're getting is the real deal.

    • Wow had no idea they made fake masks, I guess I should have known, anything popular enough they'll fake it

      • +1

        yep!

And would be really easy to mark it as satisfying all Australian Standards/ticks etc, but does jack all in actually protecting your lungs!

        • I upvoted before I realised they were fake, wish I could take it back. I know they aren't necessarily fake, but honestly what are they chances they aren't? At this price. Plus there are multiple articles about fake masks that look just like these lol

        • I don't know if these ones are fake mate, so it would be unfair to the business selling them to state that here.

All I'm saying is be wary of online orders for safety products like this. A bricks and mortar reputable seller (and subject to Australian Consumer Law) would be the safest bet…. and no question more expensive.

But in my opinion your safety is one area you don't go cheap on and take unnecessary risks.

IE As much as I hate promoting a big corporate monster like Bunnings, you at least know their supply chains are legit with the manufacturer and not Chinese knockoffs sourced to try and make a few extra bucks.

  • will this protect me from the up coming flu season ?

    • I have the 6000 series and haven't tested it on viruses yet but I can vouch for it stopping hay fever. I bought mine from BOC. Paid around $30 on "special" and then had to pay another $20 when I picked it up for a filter. Mine didn't come with the 6001 filter holder like the op's version does. I ordered the same half mask filter with all the doodads on ebay from China for a relative and it was less than half the price of the mask I bought on "special".

I don't know anything about these and when I read the title I instantly thought 6001 different types of cartridges but that is obsurd.

  • How big is the packaging? I assume 6001 cartridges will take up quite a bit of room. Not sure if I will even be able to fit them in the garage.

    Cheers.

    • Thank you!

  • Great price! Don't suppose you have L sizes?

I compared this deal to Bunnings… and found that even with shipping this deal was a lot cheaper.

    Nice deal, thanks!

  • Anything can protect chlorine ??
