Oh brother, so much guff used in advertising the Dyson fans. 'Purifier' - just how much of the room's air is something like this really going to filter? How much are the filters? How long do they last? 'Cooling' - it's just a fan.

I believe filter is rated for 4300 hours (meaning if you run fan 24/7 you'd need to replace the filter after half a year)

Filter on dyson site is $99 with free delivery but none in stock.

      • lol wtf. So basically this is a fan that needs $100 per year to run + electricity.

Pretty sure the air was fine to breath before dyson came along.

        • Yep. I stupidly bought the first model 'hot&cold' one - biggest rip off ever. Their vacs are great but the fans are a joke.

        • Can you link to an air purifier that requires no filter?

        • Can you provide a quick run down on why the air isn't fit to breathe?

  • wanna a air filter somth at my bedroom…. There is no pickup…in melbounre

For $80 a filter replacement this will never be a bargain unless it actually costs $50 for the fan itself.

In either case, what I don't get with Dyson is how they claim this is effective at filtering air when by their very own marketing material, 99.34% of the air is drawn from outside of the filtered base as seen here: http://springviewz.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/Dyson3.jpg

…only 6.66% of the air comes from the base and as such is filtered - what a bunch of baloney-pushers!

  • Just read the review that this model isn't as good for using as fan. If you are thinking fan + a bonus of air purifier, don't. Better of getting a normal fan.
The wifi thing is a gimmick which I'd prefer not to have to be honest.

    • I've got it and I don't think it blows as much as the standalone Dyson fan (the new one) but I rarely crank it up past 5/10 anyway - only has to travel a short distance for me

  • I wanted to get this as I have lots of allergies around the house - anyone have one and can advise whether it helps with allergies? How does it compare to other purifiers on the market?

    • if you want an air purifier, get a purifier. full stop.

    • anyone have one and can advise whether it helps with allergies?

It's a fan, so if anything it INCREASES the stirring up of allergens into the air.

How does it compare to other purifiers on the market?

It doesn't compare. It's a "FAN", not a Purifier. It purifies a TINY proportion of the pitifully small amount of air that it blows.

wanted to get this as I have lots of allergies around the house

You probably need to reassess what exactly you are doing and what you think you might need this for.

If your home is unclean, then cleaning it will be infinitely more effective that trying to filter crap out of the air.

Dyson are also running a free replacement filter promotion for this model - see http://discoverdyson.com.au/purifier/

The filters are rated for 4300 hours of use, so two filters should last about 3 years if running for 8 hours a day. There's nothing to stop you resetting the timer through the app if you want to.

    • fantastic! wow, that makes this deal even better!

Thanks! You won't believe it but I just saved like $370 on an app so I can afford this and STILL take my wife out for a build your burger experience at mc donalds.

    • You can only hope that your reward for the Burger Experience will blow significantly better than this pathetic Dyson.
